British Prime Minister Gordon Brown arrives in Iraq for surprise visit

While in Iraq the Prime Minister will also meet with General David Petraeus, the US commander in Iraq. This visit coincides with reports that Gordon Brown is to cut the number of troops on patrol in Iraq by at least 2,000, that would leave just 3,000 troops left in the region.
While on this visit MR Brown will discuss about handing over the security for the town of Basra, but he has not indicated when he will issue a full withdrawal. It seems as if Gordon Brown is trying to right a few wrongs when it comes to Iraq as the war has not been popular back in Britain, and MR Brown wants to keep voters happy ready for a general election.
