Own a PC: do I need an Microsoft Xbox 360 Nintendo Wii or Sony PS3

I like millions of others out there own a PC I use it for work and I also use it for my gaming needs, but the question what I would like to know, is my PC enough for my gaming needs, or would I need to buy a games console like the Microsoft Xbox 360, the Nintendo Wii, or even the new Sony PS3?

What has stopped me from buying a games console in the past is the fact that I get bored with games easily, but the fact remains that there seems to be far less games being released on a PC than on these games consoles, which means that I am getting left behind.

I suppose I could keep going round my cousin’s house and use any one of his three games consoles, how much money I save then ah.

The Nintendo Wii is the obvious choice. You can be lazy and play ALL of the old great consoles (Sega Genesis, Nintendo 64, Super Nintendo, etc). You can be active with sports games and other multiplayer action games. You can play the regular type games they have for Xbox and PS3. It’s the best choice. No one really needs all of the other extras (hard drive, media center, tv downloads)…

If you own a PC you can play (or will be able to play) all of the best 360 games so get a PS3.

The exclusives on the PS3 are exactly that. The exclusives on the 360 are just ‘console exclusives’.

Bioshock is already out on the PC and Halo3 and Gears of War are following at some point.

A PS3+PC combo will give you those games plus Metal Gear 4, tekken 6, Gran Turismo 5, Final Fantasy 13, Killzone 2, Warhawk, Haze, Jak & Daxter, Uncharted, LA Noir, Time Crisis 4, LittleBigPlanet and all the other exclusives out on the PS3 over the next year.

Dude, Orange Box!!! Nothing else realy needs to be said. One game box, 5 games and endless FPS action. Do not buy a Wii, go to free online game sites for the same type of fun, and PS3 is already outdated compared to what the PC is now pushing, one time plunge into PC gaming is $1000 and $200 once ever two years to keep up, but you always have a fast clean machine, and you have the most entertaining expierance. Stay where you are buddy, wait a while before you plung into the console market, it (console) has the fastest turn around right now. XBOX LIVE is restrictive compared to true online gaming and world of warcraft will turn you into a sloth with its immersion factor.

You should get a Wii, simply because of the Nintendo games like SSBB, Galaxy, Corruption and Mario Kart, the PC can cover the games on the PS3 and the 360, but the Wii is unique in its games offering, plus if you enjoy playing with other people the Wii is best.

Wii Rocks if you have any young kids at home – including ME! I got the Wii a few weeks ago – yes we have just started. This system is all about the kids – they love it and my 3,5,7 year olds can all play. Wii is the most friendly kid console out there!!! There are tons of new releases coming out in Oct, Nov and Dec that are good for Kids and Adults. Metriod Prime is very cool, Resident Evil Umbrella will be cool and there are tons of other games being released. For PC games – yes I agree the PC games aren’t much different than XBOX60 unless you want to play them on a large screen projector. I play Wii on my Large screen with a composite cable for Hi-Def and it’s very Cool! Again – for Kids and Me – the Wii. For other games – I’ll use my PC or MAC. Not to mention – Wii won’t cost you a fortune!!

Wii is great for playing with other people, in the same room. It’s control is also closest to keyboard and mouse. After 7 years I still cannot get the hang of console FPS games, despite breezing through Doom, Half-Life et al.

I have been a PC gamer since CGA was the height of graphics, and find the Nintendo franchises a refreshing change from PC games, after buying a Nintendo 64, to find out what this Zelda fuss was about. With a Wii you have legal access to the greatest games of the past, plus some of the most imaginative ones of today.

If you have a PC the games you can play are similar to those on XBOX360 and PS3, like Bioshock. For the expirience buy the Wii, I own one and it is great fun.

Get your cousin to buy Metriod Prime 3 on the Wii, and play through it there. Set it on the hardest difficulty setting, and set the controler sensitivity to “Advanced”.

These FPS controls are the closest a console will get to the Mouse/Keyboard setup. They feel great!

Unfortunately, Metriod is more of an adventure game with FPS controls than a true shooter (there are long portions of the game where you solve puzzles. They are well done, but it may not be your cup of tea).

Hopefully, now that Metriod has established how FPS controls should be done on the Wii, we’ll be seeing a dedicated shooter soon that feels just as great

    @jerky

you only forgot to mention that between the xbox and the pc version, the pc version always is better.

even halo (the super microsoft xbox exclusive) is better on pc… you get more maps, more weapons, more resolution, more textures, faster loading and you can play free online.
same happend with bioshock, same will happend with gears of war.

plus, your pc wont break and wont scratch your disc.

Yeah get a PS3. With a pc you can already get the coolest 360 exclusives anyway like everyone said. Plus the pc version is better than the 360 version. If you can get a Wii too.

Computers are nice for simulators and strategy games where you can benefit from having keystrokes and shift/alt keystrokes that lean into the hundreds. Everything else I prefer from the comfort of my couch. (This does not include the Wii which you can only enjoy from the comfort of your own flailings)

As for the PS3/Xbox 360 debate. I would say get them both if you have the means. (I will as soon as PS3 hits $400 or less)

Owning a Wii and an Xbox360 I would have to say Xbox Premium or Elite. Since you game I’m assuming you use Windows and the 360 is the best way to better your PC experience. Sure some games will come to PC later, but being able to use it as a media device for your home network is priceless. I would wait till the IPTV features are fleshed out and the new 65nm Chips come out for a more stable experience. I know it’s going to be hard, but that means waiting for next Spring. If you can’t wait like you have till now get the Wii if you can this holiday season. The PS3 is an after thought because of the high price tag unless your a fan boy or you adore folding at home.

I forgot to mention if you are dying to have motion sensing control on your PC, get a Wii-Mote and an emulation box, ($80 plung). Also, this is the most disturbing thing out there, your a PC has 60-70 times as many games as a PS3 with backwards compatibility, that’s right over 300,000 games out right now. And inovative, inovation in PC games makes the Wii look like another PS2. gamehippo.com has tons of freeware games, it is the indie games you will find there.

    Wii.

PC is an individual gaming experience.

Wii is a group (or party) gaming experience. And your girlfriend/wife/mother/grandma/daughter/fag hag will love it.

And Wii, like iPod, is a revolutionary product. iPod transformed the way people listen to music. Wii is now transforming the way people play games.

You go to your cousin’s house and play his consoles? Don’t get any other console then. You just sound like you don’t even need to play games. I really don’t imagine you going to your cousin’s house and play fps or final fantasy games for at least 4 hours. If you don’t really spend that much time on games, then don’t even bother. A pc is good enough to keep you busy.

I’m also a big PC gaming fan, and always have been. It was a hard sell to get me into console gaming, and only the Wii could do it. I’ve owned all three, and only kept the Wii. I gave the 360 about 5-6 months, and now the PS3 (which I’ve had for 2 now). The was drawn into the other next gen consoles because of there “Great Graphics, and thier awesome online”. In reality, I haven’t seen anything that I can’t play on my PC graphicaly (although I do own an expensive computer) and the online is never as good as it’s on the PC.

The Wii on the other hand gives me something almost entirely new. Sure, It’s not the newest graphicaly, but again I have my PC for that. It’s great to play with other people, but I still spend a lot of my time doing just solo stuff on it. MP3:C, Zelda, and MySims are great single player games just to name a couple.

Xbox 360 may have Halo, but it will never compair to Counter-Strike, and CSS. I’d go with the Wii, it will be something new and something you may really enjoy

If you ok with your pc keep just the pc. If not get a PS3 or a Wii. What most people don’t know is that media extender works with the PS3 as well. I watch movies from my computer on my PS3 using media extender. I don’t see the value of a 360 for you as all the must have ips for the 360 are on PC as well usually with better graphics and more added to them plus free online.

At this very moment Games for Windows is not very big and no, not all the hottest games are shared on PC. All of the games are released on the 360 including arcade game and all the other many functions that the Xbox can do. Even if they were released on PC later then they will be all late as 360 players would have already played and the game reviewed multiple times. Then the PC would look just like the PS3. But what is cool is that Xbox 360 players will be able to play PC Players. Then it will be about PC vs 360 not 360 vs PS3.

    @jaime

yeah but how long did you wait for this “improved version” when PC owners got Halo, Halo 2 was about to be released.

When PC owners got Halo 2, Halo 3 was about to be released.

It’s close to 1 year since GoW was released and PC owners are supposed to be happy to wait so long for tweaks.. come on.

Bioshock was at least an exception to the rule ;)
