Nintendo Wii this Christmas: Reggie Fils-Aime said shelves will be empty

According to the Nintendo of America president (Reggie Fils-Aime), the Nintendo Wii this Christmas will not be seen on shelves (they will be empty).
In Reggie Fils-Aime exact words “We’re working very hard to make sure that consumers are satisfied this holiday, but I can’t guarantee that we’re going to meet demand. As a matter of fact, I can tell you on the record that we won’t”.
Apparently “the shortage is nothing to-do with the production of the console”, but rather on how they planned the demand and marketed the console (hang-on that means they did not plan to produce enough”.
Whatever way you look at it, I would say they could have planned things better…whatever they say.

My god, i’m honestly impressed.
You’ve basically quoted 2 lines from the man, neither of which say anything other than he expects demand to be high. Then you manage to add your own inflammatory comments and then interpret your own comments and come to the conclusion they have planned to short supply people from day one.
Regardless of whether they are short supplying to create hype (and who doesn’t at xmas?) this piece is truly awful!
@ Shaun
You said “neither of which say anything other than he expects demand to be high”
In fact Reggie Fils-Aime said “As a matter of fact, I can tell you on the record that we won’t”.
As said above and at the source, which does not say high demand…it says won’t meet demand.
Also Shaun you add your own inflammatory comments, by saying I “come to the conclusion they have planned to short supply people from day one”.
I never said planned to, I said “could have planned things better”.
We all make mistakes and I am sure they just never knew how popular the Wii would really be at the start (and yes I own one and love it).
Do you own a Wii Shaun?
No-one could have envisaged how immensely popular the Wii was going to be. From a monetary perspective Nintendo had to be cautious in production after the relative failure of the Gamecube and the dominance of Sony for 2 generations. Don’t forget they’ve managed to sell over 9 million units in under a year. Pretty impressive me thinks.
