A suicide bomber, believed to be a member from the Taliban, tried boarding a military bus wearing an afghan army uniform and set off a bomb strapped to him, causing a huge explosion killing 27 soldiers and injuring another 29.
The force of the explosion left just a burnt out hull with the roof and sides ripped apart.
Police and civilians searched though the wreck seconds after the explosion looking for any survivors.
A high-ranking army medical official from the Afghan army said 27 soldiers
had been killed and 2 are in hospitals.
“For 10 or 15 seconds, it was like an atom bomb - fire, smoke and dust everywhere,” said Mohammad Azim, a police officer who witnessed the explosion.
An army officer said “there were about 50 people on the bus at the time of the blast.
Civilians close to the scene were also reported to have been killed.
The Taliban typically targets international troops as well as the Afghan military and police, and civilians are often caught up in the attacks.
In June, a bomb ripped through a police academy bus at Kabul’s busiest transport terminal.
This killed around 35 people and was the deadliest insurgent attack in Afghanistan since the US-led invasion in 2001”
