Madeleine McCann’s father supports Europe-wide alert system for missing children

It has been reported that Gerry McCann has said “If this is true we would very much welcome it as a major step in the right direction toward helping other children and their families”
Currently Portugal holds the EU’s rotating presidency and this means they are able to push for this missing child alert system, which is just what they are doing.
After Madeleine McCann went missing on the 3rd of May, many people around the world have criticized the initial response of the Portuguese police but if such a system was in place things could have been a lot quicker.
The borders would have been sealed off much faster; I would also imagine the ports and airports would have been alerted faster as well.
Although it’s a bit late to go back now and change things, we can help missing children in the future with a European missing child alert system (and children will go missing again).
