Harry Potter Scores Hat-Trick At First Ever National Movie Awards

Harry Potter continues to prove itself as one of the most successful film franchise in history after the latest film collected a hat-trick of gongs at the first National Movie Awards.
The fifth movie in the series, Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix, collected the Best Film award, and saw both lead actors earning an award. Daniel Radcliffe beat off his co-star Rupert Grint, Orlando Bloom, Johnny Depp and Daniel Craig to collect the title of Best Male Performance for his role as the wonderful wizard.
Dame Helen Mirren presented Radcliffe with the award with the 18-year-old actor saying it was “amazing” and “totally unexpected” to have beaten James Bond saying,
“Daniel Craig is someone I look up to as an actor, not just as James Bond,”
Co-star Emma Watson’s role as Hermione Granger saw her receive the Best Female Performance gong, beating Dame Judi Dench, Eva Green, Kirsten Dunst and Keira Knightley.
Harry Potter completed the hat-trick by winning the award for the Best Family Film title. The National Movie Awards hope to rival the Baftas as the UK’s premiere film awards ceremony.
The British success continued with Hot Fuzz taking the Best Comedy title and Casino Royal taking the award for Best Action/Adventure movie.
Long-awaited The Simpsons Movie won Best Animation, beating long time favourite Shrek to the title.
