The Day The Earth Stood Still Release Date Pushed Back

Scott Derrickson’s remake of classic sci-fi film The Day The Earth Stood Still has had a release date change. Originally set to release on May 9th, the film is now set to be released on 12th December 2008. The previous release date would see the film go head-to-head with Speed Racer.
It may seem like a smart business move to change release dates so the film wouldn’t be up against such a big movie but it wasn’t the reason the film got pushed back. The Day The Earth Stood Still hasn’t begun principal photography yet and was moved back purely because it couldn’t meet the Summer release deadline.
The remake is to be directed by Scott Derrickson from a script by David Scarpa. The original 1951 film by Robert Wise is considered to be one of the best Sci-Fi films of all time and was debated for it’s religious symbolism and many interpretations.
