It has been reported that filmmaker Martin Scorsese plans to direct an authorized documentary about legendary Beatle George Harrison who sadly died in 2001 after a battle with lung cancer. Interviews and early production will begin this year with the film taking several years to complete, claims Variety.
Olivia Harrison, George’s widow has said,
“It would have given George great joy to know that Martin Scorsese has agreed to tell his story”.
Olivia will serve as a producer of the film, which is yet to be titled, and will supply archival materials. Surviving Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr will participate in the film, as would the Beatles’ Apple Records label.
Martin Scorsese is the Oscar winning director of The Departed, is currently preparing for the April 2008 release of a concert documentary about the Rolling Stones which is called “Shine A Light”.
The George Harrison movie will cover his time in the Beatles, where he composed tunes as “Something” and “Here Comes The Sun”, his solo career and foray into movie production with films such as “Monty Python’s Life of Brian”.
Scorsese was quoted as saying,
“George Harrison’s music and his search for spiritual meaning is a story that still resonates today and I’m looking forward to delving deeper,”
George Harrison was my favourite Beatle so a film about his life would be amazing for me. What do you think?
