Lord of the Rings (LOTR) vs Harry Potter: Your Favorite Is?

Lord of The Rings and Harry Potter are two cult classics and both have their legions of fans around the world. Both films are adapted from books and both films have had a monumental amount of success at the box office.

LOTR was written by the amazing J.R.R Tolkien and follows the story of Frodo Baggins, a peaceful hobbit, who is content with living in a distant corner of Middle-Earth. That is until he is faced with a challenge. Frodo must obliterate the Ring of Power to prevent the forces of evil from getting a hold of it.

Harry Potter, although in the same ‘fantasy’ genre is a whole different story. Harry Potter is a wizard who parents were killed when he was young by an evil wizard named Voldemort. Through Harry’s seven years at magic school Hogwarts, he is confronted by many dangers, including the return of Voldemort (who everyone thought was dead). Harry Potter finds he has to deal with growing up, school and most importantly, saving those he loves.

Now I must confess I have seen every Harry Potter movie so far, as well and reading all the books. Lord of the Rings, however, is not my scene at all. I won’t go as far as to say I hate the movies, but I have a strong dislike to them.

Lord of the Rings (LOTR) vs Harry Potter: Your Favorite Is?

In my opinion, Harry Potter is the better film franchise. Lord of the Rings may have its fans but nothing can beat Harry Potter. It’s more accessible to everyone who watches it, whereas LOTR seems to have a set audience. Don’t get me wrong, technically LOTR is an cracking film - the special affects are amazing but I just believe Harry Potter is far better.

That’s just my opinion though, I want to know what you think. Which is your favorite out of Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings and why?

I like both and that’s really the bottom line of the matter. Whether I’m watching LOTR or HP, I get the same feeling of being whisked away to some other reality for a fun adventure that I couldn’t experience otherwise. Regardless of which is “better”, they’re both outstanding in my book.

Ive read and seen both a hundred times and I feel lotr is far superior It took tolkien allmost 20 years to write the trilogy and there is an unbelievably HUGE amount of back story, history etc the films took 8 years to make (I know there are more hp films but in ratio of time to film lotr takes longer) this I think proves lotr has far greater depth. Now I like hp also but in terms of depth and sheer effort that went into making the books and films lotr wins and lets not forget return of the king won 12 academy awards, and fellowship and two towers won there share to.

  3. you know who says:

Harrypotter movies and the books are my horcruxes. but LOTR also good movies.

  4. Peter says:

Harry Potter did start being more for kids, but as the saga went on the stories got much darker which makes it great for both children and adults. As for Lord of the Rings, I do prefer the story but hey that is just my opinion. And as for Dan saying that loads was cut out of the last Harry Potter movie, what does he expect, the script writer has to make choices as to what has to be kept in which must be a very hard job indeed.

  5. lotr much better!!!!

  6. Thompson says:

I can say as an author that lord of the rings is better, books definetly, films in my opinion(and that of any intelligent person) lotr is better. Also this should be about whats better not what you prefer.
