Bollywood Star Shilpa Shetty Arrested For Kiss

Bollywood beauty Shilpa Shetty has been arrested in India over that kiss with Hollywood star Richard Gere. The winner of Celebrity Big Brother began to cry as she was stopped in Mumbai Airport on her was to Berlin, reports have claimed.

Gere, 58, caused controversy when he grabbed Shetty, 32, swept her backwards and kissed her several times on the cheek at an Aids-awareness event earlier this year.

Crowds have burned posters of the two stars in protest. Conservative hard-line Hindus claimed that the pair had violated the countries anti-obscenity laws. Shetty was held at the airport by immigration officials who had no record of a Supreme Court ruling which overturned a ban on her leaving the country.

Immigration officials claim that she was still wanted for obscenity charges over the kiss. Shilpa Shetty had to endure prolonged questioning before finally being allowed to fly to the German capital to perform in the Miss Bollywood musical.

When asked to comment, Shetty said,

“I can understand something like this if I’d committed a criminal offence. But what was my offence, when I’m just an actor, going to perform a musical on foreign land.”

Immediately after the incident in April, a regional court in India issued an arrest warrant against Richard Gere and barred Shilpa from travelling abroad. It’s ruling was overturned by the Supreme Court.
