United Auto Workers Union Agree: General Motors contract ends 73,000 national strike

The United Auto Workers union (UAW) has confirmed that they have agreed to a contract with General Motors Corp that sees the end of 73,000 workers in a national strike, the deal includes a health-care trust fund that in a word is “groundbreaking”.

Production at GM facilities will resume on Wednesday, this has been confirmed by Union President Ron Gettelfinger when he was speaking at the union’s Detroit headquarters during a news conference.

Today also saw GM shares jump after the deal was announced; they moved 7.3 pct to 26.2 Euros in Frankfurt trading.

The national strike that started on Monday was the first since 1970.
