Sally Field (Mrs. Doubtfire, Forrest Gump) has signed on to play Mary Todd, the wife of the sixteenth President of the United States in Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln. The movie is based on the award-winning biography by historian Doris Kearns Goodwin. Liam Neeson will play Abraham Lincoln and sees him guide the North to victory during the Civil war.
For a long time, it was rumoured that Marcia Gay Harden would play the first lady, who was committed to an insane asylum after three of her four children didn’t live to adulthood, and her husband was shot dead as he held her hand.
Tony Kushner (Munich) is rewriting John Logan and Paul Webb’s drafts while Spielberg films Indiana Jones IV. Depending on the strike, filming could possibly start as early as May 2008.
