Whitely Strieber, Science Fiction novelist, has finally confirmed the long running rumours that Transformers director Michael Bay is interested in directing a film adaptation of 2012: The War for the Souls. Will this movie come before the Transformers sequel which was rumoured to hit theatres in 2009?
Talking to SciFi, Whitely Strieber said,
“I don’t know if he will direct it for sure, but I know he is interested in directing it. Michael Bay’s company did buy the rights to 2012, though, and he will at least produce it.”
It was back in March when we first learned Bay was eyeing 2012 as his Transformers follow-up. It was then reported that Bay would re-team with producer Jerry Bruckheimer (Bad Boys, The Rock, Pearl Harbor) to direct the big screen adaptation of video game Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
Over the weekend, reports claimed Michael Bay had signed on for Transformers 2 with a hope to release in the summer of 2009. Persia also has a 2009 summer release date which means Bay couldn’t possibly direct Persia.
Bay wrote on his blog that he may “jump ship” from the Transformers sequel in order to do a movie before the big Hollywood strike next year. Could it be possible that 2012 is the movie he’s jumping ship for?
