I have got all three of these games consoles (Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 or Sony PS3) sitting under the TV in my living room, and I thought today “I wonder which console will last the longest?”.
I am not talking the life before it dies, but more so on which will stay popular for the longest out of the Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 or Sony PS3.
So this is the question I put to you, which do you think it will be and lets not talk about the games console you have but rather which you really think will still be the most popular in 2, 3, 4 or 5 years.
My opinion is the Nintendo Wii and the reason for this is because they have not gone the graphics route (which is changing yearly in a massive way, just look at PC’s), the Wii is very popular on gameplay alone.
I am probably wrong, but it’s my guess…what’s yours?

The Wii is okay but the games that try to compete with 360 or ps3 are kinda lame. i can only play those games for a few before i shrug and wonder whats next? call of duty sucked on there madden might be decent but i dont want to actually throw the remote to pass the ball. Scarface on the Wii is edited ever so slightly games like manhunt 2 will never make it on the wii. i agree with some others mario party can only be so fun the 35 time playing it. cooking mama is only so fun playing it the 5th time. mario games are fun but i can download those free on to my pc so i dont think that angle is going to hook me. i played the Zelda series and it wasn’t as fun as some of the DS series games. residence evil might actually be the only game that snags me but as for paper mario, cooking mama, the little ER game, wii sports, wii games those just arent that cool. i think i am personally liking the way Xbox and PC games are uniting and there is no way in h3ll that the wii will have a MMRPG game to hook me. sure its fun and the tiger woods games proably be the best type of sports game on the wii but i just seem to enjoy the more mature games. Am i going to get a Wii? yeah but i donno how often i will play the little guy.
ok, i have owned all three new systems and heres what happened. (i am 20 and very active in sports, cars, girls, etc, etc.) the 360 came out first so i got it, because i didnt want to wait another year for the ps3, big mistake, it had absolutely NO GAMES that the PS2 didnt have except for oblivion, which was out on PC anyway, so after i spent upwards of 2gs on 2 different 360s, (cause at that time the warranty was only 3 months, and they lasted about 5 or 6) 6 games, and 3 more wireless controllers, i was not impressed. 33% failure rate, ouch. wish they would have started off with the damn 3 year warranty. they will come out with a new xbox in about 2 years. or less. so no, for the 3shity.
then i got a wii. ya, it was fun playin with like my sister, mom and whatnot, but once i figured out that i could do the same thing sitting down that i could standing up with the controller. (it was not accurate at all, i would swing on wii sports, and it half-way look like thats the way i swung, but once i sat down and just flicked my wrist it did the same damn thing!!!) give it to nintendo to use the public’s ignorance of HD and low price point to its advantage. but once people have figured this out, nintendo will have to pull something else outta its but. im sooo disapointed with the wii. i expect it to be around for MAYBE another 2 years.
then i bought the PS3. of course, like the 360, it really didnt have much for games, except for resistance which didnt last long, and Motorstorm. but its extra features still amazed me for the price. i cant complain about spending 500 bucks on a system that does everything and more that my 1400 dollar laptop does. the motions sensing controller is a little underutillized, and the rumble is sorely needed (though its coming soon!!!) but i love the playstation controller, and its easy to pick it up, and not have to learn a controller all over again, unlike nintendo. also i dont have to worry about it dieing on me like my 360s did. (my original Playstation and PS2 still play like new!!) right now my psp is getting a pretty good work out, but once Gran Turismo 5, MGS4, and FF13 come out, i dont think ill be able to break away from it. so i think the ps3 will at least be around as long as the PS2.
I would say the PS3. It has started life the same as the previous 2 PlayStation’s did and Sony are going to support it for a long time. The PS1 was on sale for about 12 years, the PS2 has now reached 7 and is still I believe the second biggest selling console this year and I have no doubt the PS3 will be around for equally as long.
i say ps3.Even though i have a 360,i also have a 60 GB ps3 sitting in my closet. Its unopened .I think my 360 will eventually get the red rings of death, and so will all other 360’s.Then i will mov on to the ps3 see how that works for me.
As an active person (work out hard twice a week, play lacrosse, play pickup games of whatever with my friends, etc.) I don’t mind getting up and moving around. I don’t mind moving around till I can hardly stand. I hate the Wii. I aquired one for a friend, and after playing a grand total of four hours, I’ll never touch it again. Now that being said, I enjoy the 360 a heck of a lot, buy I enjoy my PS3 even more. While the 360 does have a lot of games, not a lot of them are very good, and the ones that are don’t have a ton of replay value. In fact, the only game that gets played a lot is COD4, and that’s only on multiplayer. Now, the PS3 gets a LOT of play time, and the few games we do have get a heck of a lot of play time, both on and offline. So that’s my story. And I’m sticking to it.
ps3 and xbox have rock band.
wii have *yawn* Guitar hero.
ps3 has blueray the new standard for Movies.
Wii is not next gen it is last gen technology.
I have both wii and ps3. anything the wii can do the ps3 can do better.
last but not least. nintendo should make only games. their console is a big ass joke they played on us. (gamecube with u-force and power glove technology, repacked and resold as next-gen)
nintendo have never included anything other then a gaming platform. what i mean by this is. that is all the nintendo’s will be a gameing console. where as the ps3 is a home entertainment platform. movies, music, internet(i know wii has a browser, but they make you pay for it) and pictures.
So one said that the xbox and ps3 are just computers that sit under your tv.
let me correct you. they are Semi-Super computers that are under $1000 that sit under your tv.
I agree. I think that when games become too real, they lose attraction to some people. Many are looking to escape from reality, and want a fun game. Especially one that can get them to move a little, and encourage family or group participation.
I loved Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Quake, etc. but when Return to Castle Wolfenstein came along, I couldn’t get into killing the luscious Nazi women killers. Is it just me? I am 62 now, maybe that has something to do with it. We have had everythin from Pong, to Coleco to Intellevision etc, and enjoyed all of them.
Great graphics are wonderful, but I no longer want to invest the time in learning complicated controller tricks. I have an 8 year old grand daughter, and she loves her PSP. We are still looking for a Wii at regular price without bunch of games we don’t want.
I reallly think the wii is going to last for at least 4 more years or 6, why, well development of course is very cheap but of course it all comes down to control and power, the wii can only do so much like make certain landscape and characters shown on screen at the same time, the controls have to be configure, for players to be able to play in a very easy way so that everything can be natural extensions of your body. They aren’t AWESOME games on this console unless of course Metroid Prime, Zelda, and Mario. Of course this games are meant to be played by 12 and under, but still this games are awesome but of course lots of the games are of Mario, mario party, mario Kart,ETC.. It gets lame.
The XBOX 360 is a very great machine, everything is on the palm of your hands you just connect it to an outlet and put a game, connect HD cables so at least games will look awesome, and start playing but of course be ready to have ethernet so that the whole package can be ready. OF course it comes out with fault games are at least SIX hours or 12 the most, they are based in first-person shooters, there are games that are also in the ps3, exept gears of war, bio shock, and Project gotham. It also overheats alot, i was once in my cousins house and the fans were super loud and the dvd rom started whirring and basically its super loud.
The ps3 is the one that I bought basically with the success of games and hardware of the ps2, theres no limitations in updates and the abbility to last longer than any other console, it comes with blue-ray, which by the way the movies on blue-ray and dvd arent that much even running at 1080P the games of course look out of this world they do look way much better than the xbox 360’s. Resistance, Lair, and heavenly sword, Uncharted, Assasins Creed, look awesome. The games are fairly longer, exept of course heavenly sword(six hours). Of course developers have more freedom to make games since technology aint there yet to reach the full capacity of the ps3’s cell broadband engine, theres lots of stuff happening at the same time, lots of buildings no lagging its awesome, online is free and there are lots of players.
If you are going to buy a console buy a ps3 its worth it… it doesnt overheat I had it on for 3 days straight and hasnt burn out.
In terms of market success, creativity, innovation and gameplay have always been more important than graphics and sound. By this measure, the Wii has added a new dimension to gameplay that has nurtured a whole new kind of game, and with it, a whole new kind of customer. Wii-fit has soccer moms doing yoga and golfing dads practising their swings and school kids playing paper mario, all in the same household. And who knows what kind of games we can expext in the future? Fishing games? Cooking games? Lightsabre games? This alone makes it obvious (to me anyway) that Wii will long outlast the other two consoles. And not only that, but how long before MS and Sony comes out with their own version of a Wii-like console? The sales speak for themselves, and MS and Sony are businesses, after all…
I think PS3 and Xbox 360.
Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of The Patriot,
Heavenly Swords,
Killzone Resurrection,
Killzone 3,
Mercenaries 2 World in Flames,
Mercenaries 3 (Unconfirmed),
Halo 3,
Mass Effect,
Unreal Tournaments 3
Gears of Wars
Gears of Wars 2
Halo Wars
Halo Chronicles
Sonic The Hedgehog
Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare
Call of Duty 5 World at War
Many more….
Nintendo is for kids, family and some adults that love to have fun
This isn’t for gamers who play hardcore since it doesn’t have most of the good shooter games, Free world ,and stealth games (ex:COD4,COD5,MGS4,GTA4,Halo 3,Splinter Cell)
PLUS Xbox has Xbox Live which is the best online gaming service around.
PlayStation Network is alright.
but the Wii was meant to be a be together and play toegether system why doesn’t it have an online service that’s as good as Live .
SO DON’T SAY PS3 AND 360 ARE ALL IN FOR GRAPHICS THEY ARE ALSO IN FOR GAMEPLAY (DUH…GTA4,Mercenaries 2,Gears Of Wars 2)
