Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 or Sony PS3
I have got all three of these games consoles (Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 or Sony PS3) sitting under the TV in my living room, and I thought today “I wonder which console will last the longest?”.

I am not talking the life before it dies, but more so on which will stay popular for the longest out of the Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 or Sony PS3.

So this is the question I put to you, which do you think it will be and lets not talk about the games console you have but rather which you really think will still be the most popular in 2, 3, 4 or 5 years.

My opinion is the Nintendo Wii and the reason for this is because they have not gone the graphics route (which is changing yearly in a massive way, just look at PC’s), the Wii is very popular on gameplay alone.

I am probably wrong, but it’s my guess…what’s yours?

i have been a long time gamer for a long time, and before i bought the wii i played mostly pc type games, like halo, cod3, and all these first person shooters, THe xbox360, and ps3 are basically just a pc that sits under your television. Their nothing more to their games then just shooting people up. THe wii offer actually games were you think and have to find stuff. I just bought one and have been playing addictivly and can’t get off it. I got sick of the pc games they get old because they are all the same. It like the western of old. All the fps did was improve graphics and the environments looked great but they need to devolop more of their time to the fun of the game which nintendo is the master of. In fps like metroid their is still an element of gaming and not shooting.

A few things to consider. It is true that Sony is planning a 10 year life cycle but that says little about whether or not it will happen. Sony also planned a ten year life cycle with PSP; does anybody honestly think that it has that long of a shelf-life? The market–not Sony–will ultimately decide. Also, the price drop this summer boosted sales 60% in the US–but it still could sell more than 360. If all that’s preventing Sony from out-and-out dominance is its price, then the price needs to drop $300 before it’s overcoming Wii (which realistically will not happen before Wii is selling at $150).

I also hear the term “serious games” floating around. If you want an example of how “serious games” do not necessarily make a console the most successful, look at 360. It has, according to Microsoft, the highest consumer spending of this generation yet its life-to-date sales figures are pretty much the exact same as the original Xbox. As to Halo 3, well, the original Xbox had Halo as well. What Microsoft needs right now are some solid games that appeal outside the hardcore crowd.

Finally, (aside from the lie that Wii is only for party games) it is interesting that there is not a SINGLE argument against Wii that was not made against the DS. That fact alone does not prove that Wii will gain market leadership but it is food for thought. Ironically, what people tend to forget, as far as HD adoption is concerned, is that (just like Wii) the masses are going to be attracted to lower-end products. That is to say, not every HD purchased in the next few years is going to be 1080i.

There is no “end of story” here it all. Market leadership at this point is still an open question. Gamers should elevate this debate by leaving the practice of relying on one-liners and stereotypes behind.

I have a wii and all the other nintendo consoles, because i lvoe the games, how can wii be only for kids when it has games liek resident evil and scarface, pretty fanboyism that I think, the games for wii are amazing. I just had Super paper mario it’s very good.

  4. Dizzle says:

All fanboyism aside… I own all three and I am going to say the PS3. The continued popularity of the PS2 is proof of that. They are not even making games for the original Xbox OR the Gamecube (past consoles from the Playstation’s competitors). The PS2 is still going strong, and like the PS3, had a slow and critical start. Reading all the negative things about the PS3 mostly comes from people who dont actually own this reliable peice of hardware. My word to them is “don’t knock it until you tried it.. or can afford it”.

hmm yes i think the Wii can, and is doing hardcore games but at the moment overall its lacking good games as well, i havent touched my wii for at least 2 months, alot of good games coming out but i dont think with gameplay alone it can keep up to the standards 5 years later or even 3 years later, we all know how fast technology is advancing, the wii has been using the point and click with the wii remote much better than the motion sensing, the motion is getting boring but i know it has great potential, they just have to use it instead of setting preset moves or combos it seems kinda pointless
If the ps3 doesn’t collapse and keeps growing at a steady rate there should be a time where it explodes with alot of breakthrough games, but yeah its just got to keep steady and grow right now, oh and maybe a price cut =D

As we can see, there are millions of people without nex-gen consoles yet. My guess is sony was the biggest winner last gen will lose some share for MS & Nintendo but for sure who had playstation before will have playstation again. In the long run PS will win again but maybe with fewer shares. I don’t think there are many PS owners leaving for MS or nintendo, the numbers speak for itself, MS Xbox 360 is doing just like the original Xbox did and probably who had gamecube will have Wii’s and there is a whole new market for wii from Older & woman. But in the end sony will have the biggest share again. I own a PS3 and Wii and I can say that I had fun with Wii for the first 2 weeks only, after that was so boring and now they coming with wiifit? I mean… What?? The only reason that I bought Wii was for Resident evil games from gamecube and 1 for Wii coming out this year. VC games are nice touch but I wish they had the same quality as the original cartridges, for example I own a Super Nintendo and I tough “I can buy these VC games and sell my cartridges”. I bought Donkey Kong Country 1 & 2 and when I played the graphics was a disaster compare to the cartridges, I’ll give you 1 advice, DO NOT SELL YOUR SNES SYSTEM OR GAMES IN FAVOR OF VC GAMES!!

  7. Taylor J. says:

Xbox 360 will probably keep declining in sales unless Microsoft does something drastic to get non-gamers’ attention and gamers overseas because at the tokyo game show, practically no one was excited for any 360 game title.

If the PS3 developers learn how to use the hardware to its’ full potential and make price cuts(without losing money), then Sony will most likely catch to the Wii over the course of a year or two.

I personally see Nintendo staying Number one as long as the developers keep coming with fresh ideas and more hardcore games.

So my bet is Nintendo Wii, if they keep the pace rolling which by the look at this holiday season’s game lineup(Super Smash Bros Brawl, Resident Evil:The Umbrella Chronicles, Super Mario Galaxy) they show no signs on the stalling of good games.

  8. Mat says:

anyone else noticed that alot of Xbox 360 fanboys jump right in with BIG CAPITAL LETTERS and insult every1 else? lol

  9. Jeff says:

    1. Wii- I don’t know about other folks but the nintendo wii is BORING and i am tired of seeing those old ass games like Mario which is old as I am and i’m 20. Zelda, metroid prime, mario, ugh. But it still seems to grab attention…YAWN….i’ve played the wii and i think the wii SUCKS!!! I just want to sit down and enjoy my games, not having to flop my arms around everywhere it tires the body but with 360 and ps3 you actually can sit down and enjoy them.

    2. 360 will last a long time probably not as long as ps3 but halo is the only thing happening for them and sales numbers show it and all microsoft has to do is sale 1 halo per year and it will sell hard, sad, but true.

3.Ps3 will last the most because not even being a year old the ps3 is already a more diverse system than the 360 in terms of games. It has Blu-ray which is outselling the hd-dvd’s by a ratio of 3:1. Ps3 has a pretty decent line-up for the holiday and would beat the 360 if the 360 didn’t have halo (If xbox didn’t have halo then microsoft wouldn’t have a gaming franchise) Also it helps that the ps3 doesn’t have such a massive failure rate as the 360 (Yes 32% is massive) So to a conclusion things look great for the ps3 to survive the longest, probably an 8 to 10 year lifespan

  10. Gerry says:

yes sit down and enjoy and being a lazy ass, where the wii makes you stand up and get in there
