New Breakthrough For Prostate Cancer Test

After many years of testing a new and more accurate test for prostate cancer is being launched today, but the £300 test is only available privately at present.
The new test measures levels of a chemical called PCA3 in urine. Because cancer cells release significantly more of the molecule than normal cells, detecting the disease will be easier to diagnose.
Colin Cooper, who is a professor of molecular biology at the institute, said: “Ultimately this could prevent thousands of men from having to undergo radical surgery, which can have devastating effects.”
AS it stands at the moment Prostate cancer affects 35,000 men a year in Britain and 10,000 die from the disease.
