Japan Sumo Association Stunned

For the first time in over 1,400 years a women has stepped into a sumo ring in Japan and by doing so has broken a tradition that has been men-only for untold generations.

The unidentified middle-aged woman was seen running towards the ring in the middle of autumn grand tournament in Tokyo, the woman was then dragged down by a stunned sumo wrestler and she apparently did not make it to the fighting circle.

Although Japanese authorities have denied that the ancient tradition of barring women from entering the ring has been broken, it seems to be otherwise.

A spokeswoman for the Japan Sumo Association said “She put her foot on the mound and that can never be a desirable incident”.

The Shinto faith is what “Sumo” is linked to and that faith “forbids any contact with blood, such as that shed by women during menstruation and childbirth”.
