James Gunn (Slither, Dawn of the Dead) has finally settled on his next project, and it’s not what was first expected. We believed that Gunn’s next film would be the ultra-violent thriller, The Belcoo Experiment, in which 83 American ex-pats in Brazil are taken hostage in a building and forced to do unspeakable things to each other.
It seems James Gunn has taken a break for horror and has plumped for Pets, a sci-fi comedy about a man who is abducted by aliens who are keen to turn him into their very own pet (bet ya didn’t see that one coming!)
The project has been set up at New Regency, with Red Hour Films sharing the producing duties between Stuart Cornfield, Jeremy Kramer and Ben Stiller.
Stiller’s presence as a producer on the film gives me a lot of hope that it will be good. It will be even better if Stiller decides to star in the film, which will undoubtedly mean big bucks at the box office.
It’ll be interesting to see whether Gunn stays with his hard-edged Slither style or veers towards a more family-oriented film, which is where Stiller seems to be at the moment.
