Granny Almost Burns Down Old People’s Home By Grilling Her Slippers

“The old are the wise” – well obviously not in this case! A pensioner nearly burnt down an old people’s home as she tried to dry out her slippers under the grill. Dozens of elderly people were quickly evacuated from the sheltered accommodation block by fire fighters and thick, black smoke billowed through the building.

The fire crews were shocked when they found the blackened remains of a pair of slippers under a grill.

It was only then that Joan Hiscock, 84, admitted what she had done,

“I put the slippers under the grill to dry them after I had washed them but forgot all about them, I’ve never had an accident like this in my life.”

A spokesman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue has said it was one of their most unusual call-outs and I’m not surprised!
