Giovanni Ribisi Joins Michelle Rodriguez In Avatar

Giovanni Ribisi (Lost in Translation, Perfect Stranger) has signed on to James Cameron’s 3-D feature “Avatar” and will play a passive-aggressive character names Selfridge. The Fox film will follow the story of a group of humans pitted against a distant planet’s indigenous inhabitants.

Ribisi will join a cast which already features Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Michelle Rodriguez.

The film, which will cost around $190 million to make, is set for a 2009 release and blends live-action photography with new virtual photorealistic production techniques which were invented by Cameron’s team.

The film is currently in production in Los Angeles and next month will start production in New Zealand at Peter Jackson’s Weta Digital effects house.

Avatar will be James Cameron’s first dramatic feature since the Oscar-winning blockbuster “Titanic” in 1997.
