Earlier today thousands of of people gathered in the small town of Jena, Louisiana, in protest to show their indignation over what they believed to be unfair punishments given to two racial incidents.
During the march protesters shouted “Black power” and “No justice, no peace.”
The protesters marched into the local high school where the 6 black teens, known as the ‘Jena 6′ were accused of beating classmate Justin Barker. The incident happened on December 4, and ‘Jena 6′ Mychal Bell, Robert Bailey Jr., Carwin Jones, Bryant Purvis, Theo Shaw and Jesse Ray Beard were originally charged with attempted second-degree murder and conspiracy.
The large numbers of protesters caused much of the town to close for the day, with many government agencies, businesses and schools closing for the day.
Do you agree with the protesters, are the charges of attempted second-degree murder and conspiracy unjust?
What do you believe is a a suitable punishment for the ‘Jena 6″?
