More Postal Strikes Announced This Month

Pray you’re not going to be expecting any important post next month as Postal workers are to stage two 48-hour national strikes in a row over pay and jobs. It is expected that up to 130,000 workers will walk out on October 5 and again on October 8 after the Communication Workers Union failed to reach a deal with the Royal Mail.
The union has said a rolling programme of strikes will start on October 15 and are set to continue every week until the row is resolved.
Dave Ward, the union’s deputy general secretary has said,
“Despite five weeks of negotiations, Royal Mail have failed to take on board the union’s message that in order for the business to succeed, Royal Mail need to invest in their workforce,”
Strikes are a proportionate response to an employer that is completely out of control. Rather than running the business, Royal Mail’s actions demonstrate they are intent on destroying it.
The union insists that it was still committed to reaching an agreement which would benefit both the business and workers. They will continue to talk to management. Since the summer, Postal workers have stages four nation strikes and other forms of industrial action. Surely it’s about time the Royal Mail sat up and took notice?
Rejecting a 2.5% pay offer and the Royal Mail’s modernisation plans, would cost 40,000 claimed the union. It has also been revealed that Royal Mail was charging ahead with changes to pensions, including increased employee contributions and later retirement age, along with later starts to shifts.
