The man behind Chelsea’s great success, Jose Mourinho, has made a shock exit from the London Club. A statement, released from the club, had said the self-styled “Special One” had left by “mutual consent”.
In past years, Chelsea has dominated the top of the league but a string of lacklustre performances has left the club fifth in the Premiership. These performances added to speculation over Jose’s future at the club.
It is reported that Jose had sent text messages to Chelsea players John Terry, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba wishing them “good luck in the rest of your career”. He also told the players he would be leaving the club today.
Avram Grant, former Israel coach was recruited in the summer as director of football. It is expected he will take charge of the side for their match on Sunday with Manchester United.
The sensational news has been confirmed on Chelsea FC’s website with a statement saying, “Chelsea Football Club and Jose Mourinho have agreed to part company by mutual consent.”
Peter Kenyon (Chelsea’s chief executive) told this week of Roman Abramovich’s plans to make Chelsea a worldwide brand. To do this, he wants to win two European cups in a 10-year period and dominate the domestic league.
If this is the case, it would mean that Mourinho would only have another six seasons to win two Champions League cups. Kenyon insisted he wanted the Portuguese coach to continue managing the team.
Football writer Steve Curry told Sky News,
“It’s quite incredible really, once you think of what Mourinho has achieved at the club. Quite clearly there have been clashes between Mourinho and the board - both in terms of transfer policy and the way Chelsea play their football.”
It has been said that the 44-year-old manager is said to have been irritated by the perceived interference of Abramovich in team affairs for a long time. Jose was unhappy when the £30m striker Andrei Shevchenko, a close friend of Roman’s, was signed up.
Despite Chelsea’s poor performances of late, Mourinho would not blame his strikers after their 1-1 draw with Rosenborg. It was clear to see, however, that Mourinho was disappointed. After the match, Jose had said,
“Of course I am alarmed. I am not happy. We cannot score goals. I am disappointed, but the history of the game was simple, we had 20 chances and scored one goal. So maybe we need 40 chances to score two - and 60 to score three.”
Mourinho was, arguably, the best thing to happen to Chelsea. Under Mourinho’s rule the club won every domestic honour since his arrival in the summer of 2004. It’s just a shame the Champions League didn’t come as easy for him.

There are reports of a 25 million pay off? doresn’t sound like a mutual consent to me…. Im a chelsea fan and going to the match on sunday, and while my heart says yes, i think we’ll lose, this will ahve a huge effect on squad morale. Plus, i think come the end of the season we’ll realise just how much we’re gonna miss jose
For some reason I have my doubts about Jose Mourinho’s
Was Mourinho good for English football?
Mourinho was good for English football, turned Chelsea into Title winners/contenders, when before we were just outskirts of the top 4.
We will miss Jose, look what happened to Porto when he left, Carvalho, Ferreira, Tiago went to Chelsea, Deco goes to Barcelona, and Benni McCarthey went to Blackburn.
Lets not hope we lose our backbone of the team.
