Today My Microsoft Xbox 360 Has Red Ring of Death: Glad own Sony PS3 & Nintendo Wii

Xbox 360 red ring of death
After I wrote on the 29th of August about ringing Microsoft about my Xbox 360 and trying to get them to replace before the “red ring of death” problem happens, as they said no I left it on for hours and the 360 did not go wrong.

After that test I believed that not all Xbox 360’s will get the 3 red lights, I thought it was just some that will (Microsoft changed my mind).

Today is the day I got the 3 lights and so called red ring of death, and that was after not having the console on for 2 days and then turning on for 10 minutes it died.

Xbox 360 3 red lights

This proves to me that ALL XBOX 360’S will die, they sold me a product that is faulty from day one and will only replace when it goes wrong (they know about these problems and 3 years warranty is just not good enough). Maybe newer ones will not get this.

Who thinks Microsoft should do a Global Recall on all Xbox 360’s?

Forget about writing comments saying (they will not) I know this, but it makes me laugh how Microsoft are allowed to get away with selling a console that has hardware faults…just shows what kind of company they are.

I love the Xbox 360 and the range of games, but the company puts profit and money before the customer and they know they sold us all faulty goods.

Following the 40 minute phone call to Xbox 360 support a month ago (before the problem happened) where I said in my last post “In short they will only repair the 360 if I get the 3 red lights (even after telling them it sounds like a tank and gets so hot”.

So now they will collect and fix for free, but you tell me is it right for them to sell me a product with hardware problems from the start and not recall it?

We as the consumer have to have all the hassle just so they do not lose money; I wish a higher authority would step in.

It was interesting what people said a month ago before this problem happened to me: here

Papalazarou said:
Well unless YOU have the three red lights, they’re not going to do squat to help you for free. Repair time for each 360 can stretch to about 6 weeks, so they probably want to concentrate on repairing the ones that are actually dead as dodos.

And bca said:
Well, this is typical Microsoft procedure. Let the customer do the testing and find the bugs. Get a Wii or PS3.

Well I did get a Sony PS3 and a Nintendo Wii, but as I posted the other day (Lack of Sony PS3 games makes me get my Xbox 360 out) I went back to my 360 because of the lack of games on the Playstation 3.

Today I am now playing back on my PS3 because the 360 is dead…Microsoft you have lost another customer due to your attitude to put profit before ethics.

    If you’re not already getting paid by Sony i think you should drop them a line and get them to bankroll you for all the hard work you’ve put in as i see your PR work all over the net.

    Nobody knows what the failure rate is except Microsoft, some sites reported an ANONYMOUS retailer who guesstimated that it could be as high 33% and seeing how people can’t seem to survive without putting numbers and labels of everything that number has stuck.

    Whatever the true failure rate is, nobody is suggesting that it isn’t high and yes that’s why MS slapped a 3 year warranty on it but if you expect me to believe for 1 min that fanboys don’t make up RROD stories ontop of the genuine cases reported on game forums then you’re an idiot.

    I brought up the PS2’s DRE problems not to justify the 360’s failure rate but in responce to another comment that PS3’s reliability would sell more systems, clearly the PS2 struggled on OK by selling 120 million units, I’m on my third and i bought it because it was a reasonable price and had the best libary of games, the same reason i now own a 360.

    Anyway anybody who favours the PS3’s reliability over the 360’s game library and warranty can go and buy the PS3 it make no odds to me but don’t try and make me out to be a mug or a fanboy because while you’re trolling around the net trying to make converts i’ll be playing Bioshock, Forza 2, Saints Row, PGR4 and Halo 3 on my fully working launch model 360 with a so far unused 3 year warranty.

    Well actually I still have my premium XBOX 360 from the 2005 launch and it works perfectly. I suppose I am just one of the lucky?

    @Sam

    Well arent you the perfect Microsoft PR. With all those statistics and percentages, one would think your right. Well guess what the fact that this is 2007, a time where manufacturers should have overcomed the problems of faulty harware. While not ever will you get a 100%rate of good hardware, it should not be more then 3-5%. Now when you have a company like Microsoft, a company who is not acostumed to dealing with customers, a company that forces their cutomers to depend on them, a companiy who will never give you anything for free, a company that loves to monopolize whatever they can, a company who spits in the face of all thier customers, a company that hypes the shit out of a game, a company that loves to “steal”ideas(windows, Playstation,Ipod). Well then how do you expect them to react after your Xbox 360 dies?. If it was up to them they’d make you buy another one. Do “believe” they are out for your money.

    I don’t work for Sony and I’m not trying to convince you to buy a PS3. I’m not even saying you should drop your PS3. If you read anything I have said I clearly state that bringing up the PS3, PS2 or any other system does not pertain to the 360 failure rate.

    Does calling me a Sony PR guy make the 360 failure rate go away?
    If you read what I said I said that 360 owners should be more vocal about getting the 360’s to work properly. How about they give you a 3 year warranty on the whole console? Or just a console that works?

    MS will not release the failure rate percentage because it could be higher than 33%, they don’t want the 33% confirmed, and also they want there name out of the press for this.

    You, Sam, are a fanboy since you keep bringing up other systems and trying to talk trash to me. I support you having a 360……a 360 that does not have high failure rates.

    I think MS should treat their customers right by replacing 360’s with the 65nm ones at no charge. Maybe Jaime is right and they haven’t got the 360 with the 65nm chips done.

    Hell when the Elite was announced I was like that is BS as MS should offer some type of rebate or trade for the early adopters if they wanted an Elite. All this says is that if you buy a 360 MS might screw year in a year a bring out a different 360.

    As for trolling around the net, obviously you do it too if you are watching me so much. there ae a few sites I like so why not post on them?

    Anyway enjoy your 360. I will be playing Bioshock, Gears, Halo 2,etc………on my pc.

    bah, console war is in fact FRUSTRATION-War.
    blabla this, blabla that.
    Facti is, the xbox360 is a hardware catastrophe. A fiasco.
    and you really have to be a frustrat.. sorry, a xbox360 fanboy to react like some of the comment.
    but I know, sony fanboy are quite the same.
    the solution? own both, like the writter of this article, and many, many of what I call Hardcore gamer.
    I own all, got my xbox360 dead like all. and if I had to own only one console for 2008 and the following years, it would be the PS3. Period.
    Shut up you frustrated people. can’t you just play your games and stop trying to convince YOURSELF you’re Right… well.. the console war is the negative side of the positive site, which is competition. (and NIntendo’s wii is the worst thing concerning competition and evolution)

  6. Devil Dawg42 says:

    Hey all I can say is that there is more people that like the xbox 360 than the ps3 even know of faulty system I have had my xbox 360 since launch and it has been the best console I have ever had I have xbox live tons of games and loads of fun on it the ps3 has nothing really but two games would like to play, and warhawk is not a good game it got a rating of 7 so when they say motorstorm resistence and warhawk well I can say is the first two are the only good games for the ps3. Well while I am playing the cod 4 beta and you ps3 people are not you will be saying oh I wish i had a xbox 360 so I could get the cod4 beta it s so awsome to bad its not on the ps3. I am playin cod 4 so time will go faster and funner until the greatest game made Halo 3 comes out. And also the new chips doesnt come out until November but they are right now putting the new heat sink in the systems that get sent back. And also MS didnt not know they were sending faulty systems you knw what when the ps2 came out, it had to come out first. Sony didnt know they were sending faulty ps2 to the world. Oh and MS thinks of money and everything else before the consumer you got to be kidding me I mean come on they spnt over a billion dollars for us so that we can have a 3year warranty if that isnt consumer before money than I dont know what is. Ms must be caring about people with faulty systems when they are finding ways to make the console better like getting the new chips put in them and putting a brand new kind of heat sink, so I say you better correct your self who ever wrote this misleading crap.

  7. One says:

    @Devil Dawg42

    MS spent that money so their name would not be dragged in mud. Maybe they didn’t know the 360 could potenially overheat but they do know after almost two years and they are still overheating. The 3 year RROD ONLY warranty was a PR move they had to do.

    “Ms must be caring about people with faulty systems when they are finding ways to make the console better like getting the new chips put in them and putting a brand new kind of heat sink, so I say you better correct your self who ever wrote this misleading crap.”

    MS does not care about people with faulty systems because those new systems with HDMI (which still overheat) are not being sent to you. You have to go out and buy one for $280(Core),$350(Premium),$450 (Elite). All the changes in the system does not benefit current 360 owners as if your system breaks they will send you a refurbished model with a heat sink added or a new 360 but without he HDMI with a heat sink added. You want a 360 with a HDMI you have to go out and buy one, you want one with 65nm chips when they come out? You have to buy it.

    You can;t get a new model system as they will only replace your 360 sku with the sku it is associated with. If you want a 360 that will not have overheating problems you have to go buy another one.

    That doesn’t sound like caring. Plus 1.5 billion dollars is a lot less money they would have to spend if they recalled the 360’s or replaced them all with the new 65nm 360s. You shouldn’t hold your breath on MS doing you any favors, they are a major corporation and they are about profits and that foes the same for Sony, Nintendo, Walmart,etc etc

  8. Sam says:

    @One

    “If you read anything I have said I clearly state that bringing up the PS3, PS2 or any other system does not pertain to the 360 failure rate.”

    And if you had read my comment you would know

    “I brought up the PS2’s DRE problems not to justify the 360’s failure rate but in responce to another comment that PS3’s reliability would sell more systems”

    I call you a Sony fanboy\troll because i see your comments all over the net on Xbox 360 topics promoting the PS3 and denouncing MS, I don’t get the urge to look for PS3
    threads because i don’t have 1, you’ve made it clear on many occasions that you dislike the 360 in favour the PS3 yet you keep turning up at 360 topics doing the same thing.

    You have no interest in whether 360 owners are getting treated fairly or not, you’re only here to stir things up, i’ve seen enough of your comments around the net to know that paid or not you’re still a troll.

  9. One says:

    @Sam

    Really where am I all over the net? I really only post here and on wired. Neither sites are exclusive to either format. I use to have a 360 and got rid of it due to RROD. I do prefer PS3 over 360 but I don’t think the 360 software sucks. I think the hardware is flawed. I am critically of Sony as well. I stick of for things I think are unfair as you are doing but the difference is I’m not some fanboy as you are.

    I never once here said the PS3 is better than the 360 in this here. I don’t think MS is some company that cares about its customers so when you and other people are saying they are doing us right by offering a 3 year warranty I say:

    A) It only covers RROD not the whole console

    B) If they really cared the warranty would cover the whole console or they would replace everyone’s console with the 65nm chips or at least the ones with HDMi but they don’t.

    Since I see you are bringing this off topic is because you have nothing to say to back up the RROD and the 3 year warranty I assume you know this to be true about MS then.

    If you feel better bashing me calling me a troll, fanboy, whatever but it doesn’t make the failure rate of the 360 any less or go away.

    “September 19th, 2007 | 12:21 pm
    Sam
    Nobody likes the high failure rates but with a 3 year warranty i’d rather be without my 360 for a few weeks than spend months waiting for games to come out on the PS3 only to find out when they arrive that they don’t have online play, (VF5, Virtua Tennis 3, Tony Hawk’s Project or have frame rate issues (Madden, most EA games, majority of cross-platform ports)

    Sony’s promised great things with the PS3 but failed to deliver, then they said wait till the killer games like Heavenly Sword and Lair arrive, well i’m glad i didn’t wait, HS has nice graphics but poor repetitive gameplay and i’m told can be finished in 7 hours play with little reason to replay it, Lair is all but unplayable and Warhawk’s single player mode was so bad that they decided to drop it all together and make it muti-player online only, i’ve played Warhawk and it’s about the best thing on the PS3 but without a single player mode and storyline it’s only half a game.

    So what i’m trying to say is that to me, an unreliable console with a warranty and a huge library of great games is better than a reliable one with nothing to play”

    This was your first post. You just came out and bashed the PS3. Does bashing the PS3 make the failure rate any less? Do you really believe any of these corporations care about how you feel if its not going to effect their profit?

    Personally I do care that the 360 has crappy hardware as it shows that you can make crappy hardware and people will bow down before it blindly.

    I like great games and I would own another 360 if MS fixed the problem. They didn’t fix the problem so they will not have my money. I’m happy with my Wii, PS3, PC and other systems.

    I think you only diss me, Sam, because you have nothing esle to make you feel better.

  10. Chris says:

    @one

    Why are you reading this article. Sam is right I have seen your Comments and a few 360 articles.

    I have both PS3 and 360, and yes I have had a RRD and it was sorted well by Microsoft. I also have a car that keeps giving me problems but I am not onto Ford with silly comments I take it to the dealer and they fix it for me. I don’t scan the net for GM articles and comment on there car’s problems.

    We all know the PS3 is having problems and to say I think the PS3 will be the one to have in 2009 is just silly. I bought it for 2006. I wouldn’t by a TV and leave it in the box for two years and so it will be great in 2050 :). Whats the point, there will be better by then…

    And just to add I have had problems with the PS3 too, it keeps freezing, which is something Sony will NOT do anything about.

    But I understand why you keep reading 360 articles, I would if I only had a PS3 not really much to do on it is there :), maybe you could do what other PS3 owners do mess around with the streaming stuff that shoudl keep you busy for a year or two till games come out…
