Today My Microsoft Xbox 360 Has Red Ring of Death: Glad own Sony PS3 & Nintendo Wii

After I wrote on the 29th of August about ringing Microsoft about my Xbox 360 and trying to get them to replace before the “red ring of death” problem happens, as they said no I left it on for hours and the 360 did not go wrong.
After that test I believed that not all Xbox 360’s will get the 3 red lights, I thought it was just some that will (Microsoft changed my mind).
Today is the day I got the 3 lights and so called red ring of death, and that was after not having the console on for 2 days and then turning on for 10 minutes it died.

This proves to me that ALL XBOX 360’S will die, they sold me a product that is faulty from day one and will only replace when it goes wrong (they know about these problems and 3 years warranty is just not good enough). Maybe newer ones will not get this.
Who thinks Microsoft should do a Global Recall on all Xbox 360’s?
Forget about writing comments saying (they will not) I know this, but it makes me laugh how Microsoft are allowed to get away with selling a console that has hardware faults…just shows what kind of company they are.
I love the Xbox 360 and the range of games, but the company puts profit and money before the customer and they know they sold us all faulty goods.
Following the 40 minute phone call to Xbox 360 support a month ago (before the problem happened) where I said in my last post “In short they will only repair the 360 if I get the 3 red lights (even after telling them it sounds like a tank and gets so hot”.
So now they will collect and fix for free, but you tell me is it right for them to sell me a product with hardware problems from the start and not recall it?
We as the consumer have to have all the hassle just so they do not lose money; I wish a higher authority would step in.
It was interesting what people said a month ago before this problem happened to me: here

Well unless YOU have the three red lights, they’re not going to do squat to help you for free. Repair time for each 360 can stretch to about 6 weeks, so they probably want to concentrate on repairing the ones that are actually dead as dodos.

Well, this is typical Microsoft procedure. Let the customer do the testing and find the bugs. Get a Wii or PS3.
Well I did get a Sony PS3 and a Nintendo Wii, but as I posted the other day (Lack of Sony PS3 games makes me get my Xbox 360 out) I went back to my 360 because of the lack of games on the Playstation 3.
Today I am now playing back on my PS3 because the 360 is dead…Microsoft you have lost another customer due to your attitude to put profit before ethics.

Christian you are an idiot. The fact is they are selling faulty goods. It doesn’t matter if the warranty is 1 year or 10 years. It should not be going wrong AT ALL but it is doing and its a hell of an inconvenience when it does.
Stop lying to yourself about it not being a problem and that you don’t mind being without it for a few weeks.
If the stat about 30% of 360’s failing is true that means that the PS3 is 150 times more reliable. Only a complete retard would stick up for Microsoft and say it isn’t a problem when it is obviously a massive problem and a massive inconvenience.
@Chris. The PS3 is a more powerful and higher spec console than the 360. In a year or 2 your comments will look utterly inane. Would I pay $100 extra for my console to be more reliable and have a longer life? Of course I would. Only an idiot wouldn’t and to advise people not too is even more idiotic. The 360 was rushed out to get the drop on the PS3 and over the comming years it will look like a piece of tat compared to it. You are also a liar because you do not have a PS3 and the fact that not all of your friends 360’s have failed yet doesn’t mean they don’t have the problem. You and Christian are the biggest pair of dimwits I’ve seen in a long time.
@nik
Just take it back to the place where you purchased it. It only a week old, they have to replace it…
@ Chris
But the ps3 has only been out 10 months, 360 had another year to start making games, ive heard about the 360’s orignal crappy line up of games. In a year from now, PS3 will MGS 4 Tekken 6 and most probably Final Fantasy 13. I dont know about you but i think the games on the ps3 store are very good, like super stardust HD, tekken 5 dark ressurection, warhawk. Those games keep me going for a long time. I think echo chrome is going to be incredible. And yes i would happily pay $100 (£50 here) for a console that looks so much nicer and doesnt break after 10 minutes of turning it on. Oh did i mention home is out next month.
@steve
I know what you are saying, but when the 360 started there was no other. Now the PS3 has to compete with 360 and wii. I am not really a MGS4 or Tekken fan but FF13 is the one I am looked forward to. I am not sure about Home to be honest, I have 2 kids that use the consoles. I need to see some really good child security on home before I let them near it, you never know.
I really hope all three do well so we have good games on all. But I do worry about Sony they don’t really have anything next gen on there console, Wii has the remote, Xbox has XBLM, and PS3 has Blue Ray ( which doen’t make my games any better). Some people say the graphics are better but I don’t see that yet. But we will see
Nobody likes the high failure rates but with a 3 year warranty i’d rather be without my 360 for a few weeks than spend months waiting for games to come out on the PS3 only to find out when they arrive that they don’t have online play, (VF5, Virtua Tennis 3, Tony Hawk’s Project
or have frame rate issues (Madden, most EA games, majority of cross-platform ports)
Sony’s promised great things with the PS3 but failed to deliver, then they said wait till the killer games like Heavenly Sword and Lair arrive, well i’m glad i didn’t wait, HS has nice graphics but poor repetitive gameplay and i’m told can be finished in 7 hours play with little reason to replay it, Lair is all but unplayable and Warhawk’s single player mode was so bad that they decided to drop it all together and make it muti-player online only, i’ve played Warhawk and it’s about the best thing on the PS3 but without a single player mode and storyline it’s only half a game.
So what i’m trying to say is that to me, an unreliable console with a warranty and a huge library of great games is better than a reliable one with nothing to play
Lets forget about games and forget about rival consoles.
The fact is Microsoft have produced a piece of hardware that fails at an alarming rate. Not only that, it continues to fail 2 years into it’s production cycle, showing that they have learned nothing. We have never seen a situation like this with a video ganmes console before.
The 3 year warrenty is a step in the right direction, but nit does not help the thousands like me who had a 360 die on them before MS decided to take action.
To suggest the exteneded warrenty is the right action is confusing. The 360 has so many great games that I’m sure people would like to keep it for years to come, like I have been able to with my C64, PS1, PS2, Atari, Gameboy, Sega Gamegear, Megadrive, Amiga, etc, etc.
It these issues continue and Sony up their game it won’t be long before parents start casting their vote at Xmas time.
Not remember DR Errors both from PS2/PSX… and that you HAD 2 Pay for Repair, is just a very short term memory…
aren’t you?
Keep Complaining… don’t fix it. I dare You.
I agree 100% with everything Daniel had to say in his Article. I am personally on my 4th console, all 3 previous ones got the RRD. I know 8 people who also have a 360 and 4 of them already have gotten the RRD.
If you have spent any time doing any research on what actually happens to cause the RRD, then you will know that this WILL/CAN HAPPEN TO ALL 360’s! It is not an isolated problem, it is a design flaw. The 360 uses cheap MotherBoard plastics and has inadequate cooling, which comes together in the fact that the 360 gets too hot, the MB warps and I believe it is the graphics chip that pops off the MB.
I have not only had the RRD issues, but I have then had other issues because of switching my 360 out that MS will not help resolve.
Any other company would be sued over this and lose, but when your Microsoft, you jsut will never lose.
Why does everything have to come down to which console is best they are both good in there own rights. Where we 360 owners have been letdown is with regards to poor testing of the console and poor customer service. I have had 4 360’s die on me and WAS happy to send them off to have them repaired untill now. I called to report the repair on the 3rd of september and still no on the 19th of september after 6 phone calls have my 360 waiting to be picked up, and yes i did try getting lables emailed to me but it wouldnt open the link on the site to download them, so im sat waiting for ups to come bring me a box and labels so it can go off to be fixed and come back for another few mths till it has to go again.
Heres a story. I got a 360 at launch. It died within a month.Rather than get it fixed(no patience) I had the cash so I bought another at Best Buy.Within an hour it had 3 red lights. I took it back and they replaced it. Within a month it had 3 red lights. Best Buy took it back once again and I got my money back. So I wait 4 or 5 months thinking Microsoft has fixed the problem. I bought another 360 in April of 07 and a used 360 for backup just in case. Well last week the newest one got 3 red lights. So I plug in the backup. Everything is fine for about 4 days. Now that one wont read any discs. Microsoft tells me this is also a hardware problem. My patience is about up.
