Zoe Saldana To Play Uhura In JJ Abrams’ Star Trek

Zoe Saldana, star of movies such as The Terminal, Guess Who and Avatar, has signed on to play Uhura in JJ Abrams’ Star Trek. Uhura was played by Nichelle Nichols in the original series.

Uhura is from the United States of Africa and speaks Swahili. She remained part of the USS Enterprise bridge crew throughout the series and in a movie spin-off. She then later rose to the rank of commander.

I think Zoe is a perfect choice for Uhura and her performances in The Terminal and Guess Who reassures me that JJ Abrams has made the right choice.

Star Trek is set to hit theatres on December 25th 2008.
