Today it was revealed that the 50Mbps broadband connection from Richard Branson’s Virgin Media has now entered its second phase of testing.
The trials team network with Virgin is looking for people to test the 50 Mbps downstream service in Ashford, Folkestone and Dover in the United Kingdom.
Virgin 50 Mbps broadband comes at a price of £47 (nearly $100) per month, which is a £10 ($20) premium on the current top tier broadband connection from Virgin, 20 Mbps.
This trial by Virgin of the 50 Mbps connection will last until the end of the year, December 31st.
Do you think this trial of 50 Mbps broadband will be a success?
Would you pay and extra £10/$20 each month, thats as much as $240/£120 each year, just for the extra speed?
Also, would you be willing to test Virgins 50 Mbps broadband?

the Answer is no becaue im paying for 8 and im just not getting that speed..
Is that ‘up to’ 50Mbps but you still get 3Mbps if your lucky. Why not trial ‘up to’ 100Mbps? It is a marketing scam that has worked (although mainly by BT). When ISP’s do not deliver you the speed you were ’sold’ and then give bandwidth priority to customers of a newly introduced service, is the company re-selling what you should already be receiving?
Personally i wouldn’t pay for it but thats cos it’s not financially viable for me atm in time, cos i’m a student. But considering Virgin is on cable and not adsl i would have no doubts at their ability to provide as close as possible to the max upload speed. Any1 on 8 meg adsl cannot complain cos they should relise its worse than cable, and u won’t get as good a connection when every1 is online in your street. And it doesn’t take a genius to relise light travels faster than electricity.
