Jodie Foster And Billy Bob Thornton Dissapoint At The Box Office

Jodie Foster wowed audiences with her performance in the vigilante thriller “The Brave One” but the film’s bad reviews were dismal in comparison to her recent efforts. It has been estimated that The Brave One sold about $14 million worth of tickets across the US and Canada during its first three days of release.

Now, if you compare that with her other recent releases such as Flightplan which, in 2005, opened to $25 million while The Panic Room debuted with $30 million in 2002, a career best for Foster.

However, it seems Foster wasn’t the only established actor to underwhelm audiences this weekend. Billy Bob Thornton opened at Number 3 with the comedy “Mr. Woodcock”. The film received worse reviews that The Brave One and made a dismal $9.1 million.

Last weekend’s champion film, the western 3:10 Yuma, sipped to Number 2, making $9.2 million. After 10 days, the film starring Russell Crowe and Christian Bale has earned a modest $28.6 million. Which, considering the film cost around $55 million to make, isn’t too good.

The Brave One see’s Jodie Foster playing a New York Radio journalist who is severely beaten in Central Park and decided to clean up the city one thug at a time. Reviews weren’t great, with the Baltimore Sun describing the film as a “pretentious payback fantasy”.

Have you seen The Brave One? What are your thoughts?”
