A set of Harry Potter books are being kept under watch in a police station before they go up for auction next week. The seven books have all been signed by JK Rowling and are believed to be one of a few such sets in the world.
The books will be auctioned on eBay in aid of Aberdeenshire charity Books Abroad and are expected to be reaching a staggering £20,000. Barbara Murray, JK Rowling’s mother-in-law, works for the charity, supplying books to schools all over the world.
The millionaire author agreed to donate the valuable set as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of the charity. The books are so valuable, however, that they have to be stored in a police station in the town of Huntly for fear they could be stolen.
Harry Potter fans will be able to place their bids when the books are put on eBay at midnight next Monday. The successful bidder will then be announced at the charity’s live ball. How did the estimate of £20,000 come about? Well, Books Abroad official Claire Newman told us,
“We have been advised that they could go for that, or possibly even more. It would be a pretty special investment and it has already generated quite a lot of interest.”
What would you pay for this set of books?
