Super Mario Galaxy Boxart: Nintendo Sending Subliminal Homophobic Message?

September 16, 2007 | Filed under Gaming

Super Mario Galaxy Logo

Several people on GameFAQs with eagle eyes have spotted something slightly strange about the boxart for the upcoming game by Nintendo for the Wii.

Take a look at the boxart for the upcoming game;

Super Mario Galaxy Box

Now, look at the letters with the stars underneath and make a sentence out of those letters. What do you get?

 ”U R MR. GAY”

See for yourself. Myself, neither other reporters are claiming that this is Nintendo’s intention, or am I implying anything of this sort. We are clearly mentioning some “coincidental” mishaps in the boxart of an upcoming game.

Mind Quiz also published by Nintendo earlier on in the year, was pulled after telling users offensive messages and made references to the disabled.

Will this boxart ultimately have to be altered? Let us know.

    “Go Nintendo”? That is the dumbest thing I’ve heard all day, Daniel.

    Let me guess - you’re a vanilla white kid living in the middle of the U.S.

    That thing in the upper left hand corner is the same shape as a bottle of Elbow Grease personal lubricant.

    Great blog. I really liked it. I have also created a lens in same niche. This is my first time, hope u guys like it. Here’s a brief intro: Since the 1970s, the U.S Government had banned the use of subliminal messages on TV and radio due to the worry of manipulation of the human race. It has been proven in a particular case study that subliminal messages had increased sales of popcorn by almost 60% when used in the cinema. This however has not stopped further research into subliminal messaging and subliminal cds. It is a well known fact that the human brain is an extremely powerful tool, able to multi-task many activities and to perform tasks with the ease and skill of a machine if it has been properly trained. http://www.squidoo.com/subliminal-cds/

    First of all “anon” 1&2

    Second of all, this is just retarded. I sincerely doubt this has any basis in anything and is just the media seeing what it wants to in order to draw attention to something and cause hysteria over NOTHING.

    The stars in GalAxY? They’re at the beginning, middle, and end of the word–perfectly logical. As for sUpeR MaRio, they spread the stars out so you don’t have two stars on top of each other, the whole format is made so it looks natural, not crowded. And yes, I wrote the title that way since each capitalized letter is one with a star, in case you were wondering. No 1337 there.
