If you’ve been waiting for a pure gem of a game this year, Super Paper Mario is the definitive game you’ve been waiting for.

Super Paper Mario: A classic of a game that was released on the N64 breaking the boundaries that were moulded in Super Mario 64; But you know what, it really did work. It provided a refreshing twist on the Mario franchise, threw a great story at us, a great gameplay mechanic and bucketfuls of humour. The sequel was released on the Gamecube which tweaked some of the original features, and today we see the released of the Third in the series.

The game presents us with the classic gameplay from the original, and adds another dimension to the gameplay; literally. It provides a refreshing view on the world, but seriously the whole premise of it is a one-trick pony. It’s fun for the first few times you use it, but after a while it doesn’t do all that much for you. So, if you’re thinking of buying this just for that, forget it. The adverts try putting a twist on something that’s not actually that good.

 Super Paper Mario 3d

Aside from that flaw, there are quite a few others. Super Pario Mario feels a bit shallow and hollow. The original and even maybe The Thousand year door provided fresh new areas, dynamic towns and dialogue. The whole “feel” of the game was brilliant. Super Paper Mario however, seems weak and lightweight for a game in today’ era. Some areas are mind-boggling boring and appears you’ve seen them all before and sometimes you question yourself as to why you’re playing this game. Enemies slowly wad towards you, and as mentioned in other reviews, the 3d view doesn’t add much “depth” to the world. Not much attention has gone into this and is clearly evident.

However, this review does seem to be a bit negative so far but don’t let that put you off. Super Pario Mario is a fab game from start to end only with a few flaws that even the most cynical of people can forgive. Fans of the series definately need to play this no matter what. Likewise, those new to the series should play this. However, if you haven’t played any, play the games in a backwards order so you don’t get let down by the following ones.

The game provides lots of good challenges, and a myriad of unforgettable, crazy, and plain-fun bosses.

Super Paper Mario Boss

The Good: Paper Mario style comes across beautifully, Carries on with the same game tested game mechanics, Mario looks adorable in 2d like always, the story is classic Mario, Prooves to be a charming, elegant and humourous game all the way through.

The Bad: Features from the original are still missing, Some puzzles are annoying, 3d aspect doesn’t add much to the series, Story is quite weak. Game doesn’t utilise the system’s capabilites; wouldn’t be surprised if this could have been made for the n64.

The lowdown: 8.5 / 10
