Repaired Xbox 360 Dies: Within 5 Minutes.

Xbox 360; 3 Red Rings of Death

What happens when your Xbox 360 dies, gets repaired and sent back to you…It breaks within 5 minutes. Typical Microsoft.

I’ve personally encountered several problems with my Xbox 360′s. I’m now on my fourth console! After 3 breaking on me, having to wait for it to be fixed and staying in all day for it to be sent back only to find out it breaks again. It really is quite bad.

Recently, Microsoft promised an extended 3 years warranty to every single Xbox 360 in existence, and also they’ve numerously changed the heatsink (the cause of the problem) several times, but with no avail the problem is still around.

Kotaku Editor Brian Ashcraft sent his Xbox 360 off to jolly old Microsoft for it to be fixed, and within 5 minutes it breaks and this is the awful screen that is presented to him:

Now come on Microsoft, this really is unacceptable. I’m personally upset that my console has broken 3 times now! But it’s happening to thousands of people across the globe. I mean, you don’t even go to the effort of making sure a leading editor of one of the biggest gaming websites has a perefect console. We pay for an Xbox 360, and we don’t expect it to break. That is essential to customer satisfaction. Microsoft, three simple words for you; “Sort it Out”

What are your experiences with your Xbox 360? How many times has yours broken?

Three times now for you eh? Try five times for me! That and I can’t get Microsoft to refund my Microsoft Points they stole from me either. So you have it pretty easy if you ask me!

You have had only three dang! Your a lucky sucker! I have had 5 break down on me. That and Microsoft won’t replace my Microsoft Points that they stole from me!

Mine hasn’t broken thankfully but I have decided if it does and I have to send it in I am going to buy another one and keep the first one as a spare.

Zero times, my experience has been flawless, except for the one time I wasn’t thinking and moved my 360 while playing Oblivion, (thankfully the damage was more superficial than anything). I’ve had my 360 since the release. In fact my family owns 3. My friends also own several, and we’ve only had one friend who has experienced the three lights of death.

Isn’t that screen grab from the initial setup where you pick your language? I thought the 3 red lights was a general hardware failure and displayed either an error screen or no display at all.

Granted, the number of consoles breaking is too much, but fortunately the new xboxes (with HDMI output) seem to have fixed the problem.

  • no need to know

man, Mine has broken and I decided to go and get a ps3.
the games are great but not worth the headahce

I’m on my third. I didn’t hear about the 4 yr warranty. Is this true?

  • Phillip

    Hey guys, common now.
I just got my 9th one back yesterday.
You wanna play this game on who’s console has broken more? lol :P

But seriously, microsoft is terrible to deal with. I have lost months and months and months of game time.
Heck, I have had 2 consoles that were DOA, and consoles break within 2 weeks of receiving them.
They even lost my console in their repair center for 2 1/2 months! It’s been bad man.

Hoof Hearted. . .The 3yr extended warranty for RROD issues is in fact true. :)

I know how you feel well slightly… Ive had 2 brake on me and the one that was sent back to me broke as soon as I turned it on. Crackdown just kept on freezing, then I switched it to Gears and thjat worked fine for awhile but then thats when my console finally packed up.

Another on his fifth here. My friend’s broke within 5 minutes of its return too, it took 3 weeks to sort out. Overall though my clan has sent at least 35 360 back to microshite. When are they going to be forced to recall them all? Any other product on the planet would have been….

  • Paul

i had the same problem sent it back twice and there was no way it was going to happen a third time.
got it back after a week or so then took it down to ebgames and did a trade in for the ps3

flame me all you want for that

but sony ps1 and ps2 never had major problems like this

  • Cain

Sorry Paul, that’s not true. The PS2 had failure problems too. I had 4 PS2′s overall.

I’m currently on my second 360 after mine red ringed after 9 months of having it.

    Question!

How can you see anything on the screen if it broke?

  • Cayenamen

My first 360 is still perfectly fine.

Of course, it’s 1 month old.

  • ken

you still think 360 is better than ps3

I got my 360 a month after launch and have had no problems!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

  • Doug

I’ve had a 360 for well over a year without any problem. This is not a delicate consumer product. It requires adequate power and ventilation.

If mine breaks I’ll get an elite and make the “spare” the family console.

I wonder how many Sony fanboys are reporting that their consoles broke “346 times.”

Wow…. this is news. I mean, I really haven’t heard anything about faulty 360′s before.

That screen is from the initial setup, its asking him to pick a language.

“Wow…. this is news. I mean, I really haven’t heard anything about faulty 360’s before.”

Where have you BEEN? Heatsink problems have been there since the first release of the 360, and a lot of consoles had to be taken back by MS the first time around.

Obviously sarcasm is a concept foreign to you.

  • pfepfe

I had to return mine twice shortly after the launch. However, it was for compatibility issues with xbox games. I have yet to get the ring of death.

  • sonicguy

Yea Im pretty sure all 360′s had that backwards compatability problem, I think they didn’t even play halo 2 but then a firmware update was released.
