When you think of a reliable car many people would think of a Honda Civic, but you will be amazed to hear that Honda are to recall over 182,000 Civics as there is a chance that their wheels could fall off. The recall concerns Civics made from 2006-2007.
The cause of the problem is due to a leaky O-ring which is in the wheel speed sensor; as a result water could get in damage the wheel bearing which could then cause any one of the four wheels to fall off.
Owners of these Civics will receive a letter from Honda, where they offer to fix the problem by replacing the damaged parts. I am glad that I am not the owner of a Honda Civic.

Peter’s ending remark about being glad he doesn’t own a Honda Civic is gratuitous and unnecessary. I’ve been driving Honda Civics for ten years, and the ones I’ve had (two, a 1997 and a 2006) have been far more reliable and comfortable than the Volkswagens, Oldsmobiles, and Fords I’ve owned over my 60+ years on this earth. Peter should be so lucky as to have owned a Honda Civic! (And I’d love to know what he’s comparing them against…)

I agree with Bill. That comment is so childish. All models have recalls and TSBs. The fact that a car company wants to spend the time/money to fix almost 200000 vehicles is what should be pointed out. Remember the Firestone SUV tires????

I own a honda civic and a toyota corolla, and i will tell you that the civic is a VERY reliable car, and this incident does not mean Hondas are no longer reliable. Give honda credit for addressing something that “could” become a problem.

i just read a report that says that Honda expects about 5 percent of the recalled vehicles to have the defect.
some people are taking as if ALL 182,000+ are defective. Not the case!! A recalled car does not mean it is defective
Here is some info for you Peter:
(Taken from an official site)
“The affected Civics were built between March 24, 2005, and Feb. 8, in Alliston, Ontario. Honda also builds Civics in East Liberty, but none of those vehicles is being recalled, Honda spokesman David Iida said.
Honda said it expects about 5 percent of the recalled vehicles to have the defect.
Consumers can tell if their vehicle was built in Alliston by checking the vehicle identification number. If the first three characters are “2 HG,” the car was built at the Canadian plant.
But not all 2006 and 2007 Civics built in Canada will be part of the recall because some don’t have the potential for the bearing problem.”
