Apple is said to be adding 30-day movie rentals to the iTunes movie store. According to CNN, the plan will allow customers to rent any movie they choose for a tiny $2.99 for the month. Apple would also allow the movies to be transferred to iPod video enabled devices.
The future looks set to remain digital and on demand so Apple have clearly taken a step in the right direction. The cost to buy a movie on iTunes is around he same price as a DVD purchase, but for the same price you don’t get the best video quality or any special feature.
Apple would be better off with a subscription service like LoveFilm or Rhapsody but with movies. I’m sure that people would subscribe to an unlimited digital movie rental service. Maybe Apple should seriously consider that option?
