According to a reliable mole who apparently has a “great track record”, the 80GB model may be taking the price point of the current 60GB model at $499 once all the stocks have been juiced out, which should be very soon indeed. Not only this, but the 80gb price reduction would also allow a 40GB console to be born, costing $399.

The price cuts aren’t the only good news with the new packages reported to be coming with Spider-Man 3 on Blu-ray, which is hardly surprising seeing as Sony had been throwing Spiderman 2 in with the PSP value pack for years.

In the UK the 40GB model is said to be around about £350, which funnily enough, would make it a much closer rival to Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Elite console, a crucial move.

Finally, the PlayStation 2 will receive a further price drop, bringing it down to the bargain price of $99. Now if you ask me, at the moment the PS2 looks like it has a better selection of games than the PS3, so this will ensure Sony that the cheaper console will continue to sell well.

Do Microsoft have a reason to be worried?

Which do you prefer? The Xbox 360 Elite? Or the Sony PlayStation 3?

Let us know how you think the changes could affect the market.

The PS3 is a great console. by far my favourite but it will never kill the 360. personally i think it will overtake the 360 but that is opinion. either way the 360 isnt going to “die” it will be around for the next 5 years at least

actually all around the ps3 is just more of a stable piece of machinery than an xbox. the only leg up xbox has is the fact that their internet connection is a bit more stable than ps3, but everything else just cant be conpared. Sure, some may feel xbox has a better selection of games but stability is the most important thing from a parental point of view. Who wants to go out and spend all this money for repairs and be put out of their way with recalls when they could just by a monster machine with hardly any flaws and NO recalls? just a thought…

i had a 360 elite but 4 for me the ps3 is the better machine i never used 120 gb and if i wanted a hd dvd player it costs another £100 & £50 for a wireless network adapter i’ve only just switched 2 a ps3 this week with games like haze, final fantasy XIII, grand turismo & ps3 home being released soon it was a must also i owned a 360 for 3 years and in that time ive had 4 diffrent 360’s due to malfunction which takes a month to recieve a new console from microsoft as there backed up with broken 360 i know ps3 have been slow off the mark with making games but most of the big games come out on both consoles get a ps3
