As if surveillance towers, camera-equipped traffic wardens and rowdy police officers weren’t enough, the people over in London, England now look forward to a system that will “install networked security cameras that can recognize parking permits and the plates of offending vehicles.” This would essentially mean violating car owners can be penalized without any human presence, and is being called “the most significant application to be deployed on the Westminster’s WiFi network.” Around 250 of these cameras are expected, and they are anticipated to have paid for themselves fater 2-3 years of car parking tickets!

Is this a good move for Westminster, or will it simply increase aggressive drivers?
