A while ago we reported that Steven Lisberger, director of TRON was set to make his comeback after a 19 year absence from the movie business with a movie titled The Soul Code. Lisberger has been trying for years to get a TRON sequel without any success - until now.
It is now reported that a TRON sequel will happen, but without Steven Lisberger attached to direct. Commercial director Joseph Kosinski is rumoured to be in final talks to both develop and direct the film. If you’re wondering where you’ve heard Joseph Kosinski’s name before, it’s here. Last month we reported that he will helm the Logan’s Run Remake. TRON is being described as ‘the Next Chapter’ although it will be released under the original 1982 title TRON.
It has been said that Lisberger will be given a producing credit, but at the time we don’t know if it will be anything more than just a credit.
TRON was one of the first movies to be made with extensive computer generated graphics and effects. It definitely could do with a remake. Kosinski has done a lot of work combining live action with CG, so this would be a great project for him to do, and I have every faith that he won’t remake it too much - I believe he will stay true to the original.
The film follows the story of a computer hacker and arcade owner who is split into molecules and is transported into a computer. In the computer he finds Master Control, a nasty program who behaves like a dictator. The hacker teams up with a book keeping program and his girlfriend to try and replace Master Control with TRON, a honest safety system.
