Is the Sony PS3 still too expensive: how much would you pay for the Playstation 3?

Although we have seen a price cut for the Sony PS3 many consumers still believe that the Playstation 3 is still too expensive. The thing is when it comes to larger items like TV’s then we do not mind paying other $400, but when it comes to a small item like the PS3 people believe that it is too much to pay for such a small item.
People seem to forget how much technology Sony have crammed into the Playstation 3, but they just look at the size of the thing at let their eyes dictate to them how much they are willing to pay.
I believe that this coming holiday season will be the turning point for the PS3; I expect that sales should be healthy for the games console and all this talk will be a thing of the past.

I’m sorry I just can’t find a reason to buy one. I hate the cheap feeling controler. Hell it is the reason PS fanboys hate FPS’s it just isn’t designed with them in mind. 90% of the games I want to play are on the 360. I’m no movie fanatic that has to see every pixel. (upscaled dvd’s are fine by me plus with internet free) Sixaxis is a gimmick that so far has left more gamers shaking their heads versus their controllers. PSN isn’t shit compared to Live where the majority of people have mics. Yes it cost money but what free stuff is worth something? The PS3 game library is weak and platformers don’t do it for me. All and all the PS3 suffers from the hype Sony threw on it more than anything. It is a “me too “console but the sad part is you could buy the Wii and 360 for less than the PS3 and have the best of everything it is trying to be in my opinion.
yes it has technology do we need/want it? no
Even at the UK’s price of £425 I think the PS3 is pretty good value for all the technology you get with it. However, many consumers may struggle to find the need for such technologies at present. HD TV is a growing marketplace but it is still relatively small at the moment. Obviously consumers will not want to swap their DVDs for Blu-Ray if they don’t have high-def televisions, so these people are hardly going to see the PS3’s Blu-Ray capabilities as an essential feature. Sony really needs to focus more on the gaming side right now and start pricing it as games console (i.e. below £300). Then Blu-ray sales would pick up later as more people adopt HD TVs. That’s my opinion anyway.
the size dont really matter, if the size matter nobody would buy diamonds for more than 10 dollars.
“is the sony ps3 still too expensive”
as with anything in this planet the value is an individual perspective.
a glass of water has the same value in a restaurant than in the desert?
“how much would you pay for the Playstation 3?”
sure not a dime more than the regular price (the people that overpay at ebay when short supply, are crazy for me, but maybe play the nextgeneration console weeks before many people worth the extra dollars for them, as i say the value is an individual perspective)
i will pay whatever the ps3 cost the first decembers week (the date when i will buy one)
It will become better value as better games are released. Once you have some decent football titles, Killzone 2, the new GTA etc etc then £400 will seem entirely reasonable.
“yes it has technology do we need/want it? no”
speak for yourself, i need and i want all the tech the PS3 has.
the ps3 is all the cell,rsx,sixaxis,blu-ray,wifi,hdd,etc together… what make it be the ps3.
many complaint about the wii graphics, but the wii is what it is, with lower price, lower tech and wiimote… you cant say it has tech we dont want or need, neither you can say it lacks tech you want or need… why? because you dont make it/
buy it or not, like it or not, but the wii is complete as the ps3 is complete
the xbox 360 is complete with the dvd, and tons of adds and customization, versions, etc
neither lack tech or have over tech… every console is what their company wanted it to be, you buy the one you like, but stop saying the ps3 has more tech that it needed just because your console dont have it.
also in this price and TECH is included quality test product, enginering testing… just for you dont need to send your console every couple of months for repair.
I would pay $399 for the 20GB (with an included HD cable that can be HDMI or component).
I want games and not HD movies.
Hell, I’d buy one for $299 with a few GB of internal flash and the option to add my own hard drive later.
lol.. i would give about 10$ for the ps3.. and just because i want to smash it..
Look at all these PAID-by-Microsoft bashers (and if you aren’t getting paid, you are truly sad).
The PS3 is a better value than the XBox 360. Free wireless (vs $100 for 360), Free online (vs $60/year for 360), Blu-ray, Bluetooth (you can use any bluetooth headset vs. $100 headset from Microsoft).
Home will come in a month and will be MUCH better than Live.
The quality of the PS3 (and Wii) is magnitudes better than the 360 - just see the failure rates for the 360 and that for the PS3. The PS3 looks better in a home entertainment setup - touch sensitive power button, eject - trayless disc drive. Also the ability to dual boot into another Operating System is a plus.
I would pay more than it currently costs now.
I will buy a PS3, 360 is just like its counter-part the PC, JUNK. Thats why I use a MAC. By the way the PS3 is the only player with HDMI 1.3 too bad for poor old 360, and to think it took a game design for a MAC, HALO to make it popular.
