Hector Ruiz, the Chief Executive of AMD (Advanced Micro Devices Inc) has said that their new processor chip named Barcelona and has four processing brains will hopefully take the fight to rival Intel. At the moment Intel seem to have the market share but this new chip is hoped to turn things around so that AMD can have the market share.
Ruiz has said that the new Barcelona processor chip will strengthen AMD’s position in the Intel dominated server market battleground. The new chip is much faster and is more energy efficient, this helps it run more than one operating software system on a computer at one time, and this feature is called virtualization.
The x86 processors which are used to power many PC’s is a $40 billion-a-year market, one that AMD hope that Barcelona will help regain most of the share.
Will AMD be able to beat Intel in this fight?
