Gerry and Kate McCann, parents of missing Madeleine McCann may have returned to the UK but Portuguese detectives are pressing ahead with their case against them.
The Public Prosecutor will receive the papers outlining the evidence against Gerry and Kate McCann later today. He will then consider any charges against the couple over Madeleine’s disappearance on May 3, a police spokesman added.
Jose Cunha de Magalhaes e Meneses, the Portimao-based prosecutor, will look at the DNA evidence along with the McCanns statements to see if there is a case against the couple.
Chief Inspector Olegario Sousa has said, “At the moment the inquiry is being prepared to be handed to the prosecutor in charge of the case. He will analyse it and after this he will make his decision.”
The paper will be handed over sometime today with a decision following very soon
