Asus has just announced it will be backing Blu-ray with a multi-format DVD writer that also has the ability to play BD media, the internal BC-1205PT Blu-ray Drive features DVD-RAM writing and CD-R/RW, a burn speed of 12x for DVD±R/RW media and only 4x speed with dual-layer discs.

Sadly this product is let down by not being able to write BD-R or BD-RE media.
In the war between two formats (HD-DVD and Blu-ray) I cannot help thinking that companies should try and support both formats where possible, more like what Acer are doing with their laptops.
Soon to be the world’s third largest computer maker, Acer is showing its support for HD DVD and the Blu-ray Disc optical disc format.

Do you think it’s a good idea for brands to side with both formats or do you think they should just focus on one?
