Sony has to establish a consistent strategy for the PS3 to succeed

Although sales of the Sony PS3 has started to increase, the games console still has a long way to go if they want to compete with the likes of the Nintendo Wii or the Microsoft Xbox 360. The way forward for the Playstation 3 is for Sony to establish a consistent strategy; this is what Square Enix Co Ltd, who is a Japanese videogame publisher.

When you look at other games consoles you have to admit that the PS3 has the best technology inside, with the added bonus of the Blu-ray high-definition DVD player as well as being able to surf the net as well. However having this cutting edge technology comes at a cost, and that is how high the manufacturing costs are.

It seems that game developers do not want to put their effort into the Sony PS3, if they cannot deliver huge sales like they would from the Xbox 360 or the Wii.

Its clear from the facts that Europe had to wait 4 months longer than the US and Japan, are also expected to pay **£125-£175 more than the US and Japanese customers respectively for a console that can’t even boast the same performance, that Sony wouldn’t give its European customer base the dripping from its nose, and from here the feeling mutual.

*European PS3′s do not have the emotion chip. Therefore the performance compared to one in the US or Japan is impaired, and this includes backward compatibility.

    ** A PS3 in the US costs $600, thats about £300
A PS3 in Japan costs 60,000 yen, thats about £258
A PS3 in the UK costs £425, if you need the math doing for you, thats $850 (I doubt the extras in the value pack (one extra sixaxis controller and two games) in Europe would fetch a retail price of $250 in the US)

The new 80GB model in the U.S. will also not have the compatiblility chip.

“we get it. sony is racist.”

Lol, but seriously, the problem is that European, particularly UK customers are usually daft enough to pay the kind of extortionate prices that Americans simply would not consider.

The trouble, for SCEE is £425 for a games console is too stupid a price even for the UK mug punter, especially when the Nintendo Wii is retailing at £180.

Its worth noting that the Wii which is hopelessly underpowered compared to the PS3 is the fastest selling console in the UK, while the PS3 is the slowest.

I think its high time that SCEE got real and dropped the price to £350, thats still far more than the US and Japanese price, and way above the price of an XBox 360, but in rip-off Britain the PS3 would be flying off the shelves at that price, and lets not forget that every console is a loss leader anyway.

“The new 80GB model in the U.S. will also not have the compatiblility chip.”

It will still be $250 lighter than exactly the same product in the UK.
