HTC registered Touch as trademark
I remember all the dispute between Cisco and Apple over the trademark of “iPhone”, not only was it good publicity for both companies but they also sorted out a deal between them.

Now we have just found out that HTC has already registered the “Touch” trademark worldwide and the iPod touch looks to be breaking that trademark (although that is not official).

The CEO and president of HTC (Peter Chou) recently said he is “proud to share the same vision as Apple over touch screen functions”, but I would also imagine that Microsoft are just waiting for Apple’s phone call on this.

What do you think could this end in legal action against Apple?

Just a notation: it should be “Microsoft ‘is’ just waiting for Apple’s phone call on this”, not “Microsoft ‘are’ just waiting. . . .” I see too many people make the same mistake when referencing companies, and too many people say ‘Apple are”. That is wrong, totally wrong. Whenever you say ‘Apple” you’re making reference to a company, yes - but nevertheless just ONE company, singular - therefore it should be ‘is’. If you were referencing several ‘companies’ - plural - then it would be ‘companies are . . . ‘ Or, if you were speaking of multiple apples it would be like . . . ‘the five Apples are red’. I don’t normally point things out like this, but I thought I would this time. :o)

Wow… this is pretty lame. I think they can both safely exist in the marketplace. Does this mean that no-one else can use the word “touch” when creating a name for a product?

ok I honestly believe that APPLE had the name first or was atleast out first so screw HTC they need to get over themselves.
