Frank Wuterich, the now well-known U.S. Marine that was said to have lead a line of 24 Iraqi civilians in Haditha to their deaths in November 2005, revealed on Thursday he did indeed feel sorry and regretted the deaths but had acted as he was told to do so, according to military rules.

“Because families got killed that day and I can look at my family and I know I would not want that to happen to them,” Wuterich said, to a hearing in military court. “I will never be OK with what happened that day.”

“Based on the information I had at the time, based on the situation, I made the best decision I cold have at the time,” he said.
