Does Rob Zombie’s Remake of Halloween Make Him A Hypocrite?

Rob Zombie’s Halloween isn’t fairing well with critics and fans, although it’s raking in the cash, it’s not raking in the positive reviews. So why, oh why, didn’t Rob Zombie take a bit of his own advice? In an interview in 2002, Rob said this about horror remakes:

“I feel it’s the worst thing any filmmaker can do. I actually got a call from my agent and they asked me if I wanted to be involved in a remake of CHAINSAW. I said no fucking way! Those movies are perfect — you’re only going to make yourself look like an asshole by remaking them. Go remake something that’s a piece of shit and make it good. Like with my movie I have elements of CHAINSAW in it because I love that movie so much, but I wouldn’t dare want to “remake” it. It’s like a band trying to be another band.”

What’s that I smell? Oh yeah, a big dose of hypocrisy! Zombie, Halloween wasn’t a bad movie to begin with so why ruin it by remaking it?
It was a wise move in Zombie’s camp though, with the money pouring into the box office and the ink still fresh on his two picture deal with Dimension Films. I think the quote above was more to do with the creative side of remakes, not the business.

It still makes Zombie a hypocrite though!

Rob did say that, in 2002 BUT after giving CAREFUL thought, well heres your end product. Is he a Hypocrite, No, in anther interview, explaining, why, what and how…. He kind of saw the WHOLE thing for what it is…. Like the “classic” 1931 Frankenstein, that isnt the 1st frankenstein movie, but its set as the BeSt of the best and aswell as the 1st.
Its kind of a downfall he did say that about Chainsaw, he would have made a good “fresher” Chainsaw. I love my Classic Tober Hooper Chainsaw, the remake was good, but it felt like a part 5 more then anything.
I thought his Halloween was done good, there are so many things he added, that explain the hows and whys, that I kind of had trouble with the Org. I really dont see why all the BAD reviews, I think alot live inside a box.
I was the same why acouple years ago, I hated remakes, I thought it was just hollywoods way of turning a fast buck, then I realize, I looked into my horror movie collection, and relized how many remakes there are before all the hype started. Just too name a few, The Blob, the Fly, 13th ghost, night of the living dead, they, needful things, house on haunted. Yes, alot of the remakes where awful, but on the orther side, there are alot that are just wounderful.
I think as for me, it was a change of thought, a change of heart. I liked the Org. halloween, I loved the remake. After all a movie is just a story, diffrent story tellers tell the story as they see it, as they feel it…
