ATI graphics drivers
The open source community is becoming bigger and bigger each year and maybe AMD knows this and sees other benefits as they are making friends with them.

AMD have announced not only new drivers for Linux, but also their plans to open up its drivers to the whole community.

The ATI Radeon HD 2000 series of graphics processors will have Linux support in the new Catalyst 7.9 software that is released later this month and there will be many other performance improvements which should give a “90 per cent improvement in such popular titles as Doom 3 and Quake 4.”

The new initiative will see AMD working with the open source community to develop a 3D and 2D driver that can support all the latest Radeon chipsets.

Also the other good news for people with skills in making drivers is that AMD will be releasing documentation to help developers build some drivers from scratch.

So what do you think about AMD’s major push to go open source with its drivers?
