Toyota Motor Europe has something to celebrate as their Toyota and Lexus hybrid vehicles top the 100,000 mark in European sales. The vehicles were launched way back in 2001 and have taken six years to sell 101,235 vehicles, and these figures are set to climb quickly as more people go for the hybrid option.
The biggest seller when it comes to these green cars is the Toyota Prius, which has seen sold over 73,000 units since 2000 in Europe. The Lexus LS 600h has helped with the 27,000 sales that the company has achieved in Europe. Both Toyota and Lexus expect to sell about 1.22 million vehicles annual, and out of that sales figure the both expect at least 44,500 of them to be hybrids.
At the moment both these automakers have four different hybrid vehicles on the European market, one of which uses the Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive and the other being the Lexus Hybrid Drive technology. Globally hybrids sales have been increasing as well as total hybrid sales have now hit the one million.
