On Sunday, the United States international basketball team defeated Argentina to win the FIBA Americas basketball tournament, and earned themselves a place in the Olympic games.Top scorer was NBA Cleveland Cavaliers’ LeBron James, who rakced up a huge 31 points towards the 118-81 victory. 31 is the highest amount of points scored by any Americas athlete in an Olympic qualifier. Carmelo Anthony, who made 16 points, said “I’m tired of bronze, I’m speechless right now. This is my first time ever winning the gold medal.” Dwight Howard scored an additional 20 points towards the three-figure total. It’ll be interesting to see if the US can pull this off in the Olympics as well.
