Are Childcare Standards Falling

This is a worrying subject as many children spend as long as 10 hours per day in some form of childcare. I know my kids do in the holidays, although I am one of the lucky ones to have fantastic childcare this is not true for some of the providers out there.

It is reported that hundreds of parents have complained that children are being ill-treated whilst left at a childcare provider.

Inspectors have warned that some children have been exposed to racism and have been left on their own to cry on their own in nurseries. Some centers have also been report for failing to teach the difference between right and wrong.

Christine Gilbert, Chief Inspector for Ofstead has said “there has been ‘many improvements’ but where the provision is inadequate we will continue to monitor these providers and take enforcement action where necessary’.

Nearly 100 complaints were received from parents of which:

1. A baby being left to cry and the emotional needs of the child not being met.
2. A child being left to play inside on its own whilst the other children are outside.

I would urge all parents to check out their childcare thoroughly and if possible get feedback from other parents whose children attend the day care. If you have a doubt in the provider then I would say just don’t use them!!!

Somehow parents are wanting strangers to love the child like they do. It just won’t happen. If you have busy caregivers with several infants or toddlers each to take care of, lower your expectations. They are only human. If you wanted attentive loving care like you’d provide, insist government let you provide it. Insist on funding wherever the child is.
