John August’s The Nines Audio Commentary Online

When Kevin Smith was getting ready to release Clerks 2, he had a great idea to release an audio commentary track for the film a few weeks after the film had been released. The whole idea of it was to try and get people to go back and see the film again, this time listening to the commentary on their iPod.

This idea wasn’t well received with cinema owners, who claimed that people would be laughing at parts that weren’t funny, disturbing those watching the film without the commentary. Fair enough, considering that Kevin Smith is one super funny man.

It seems that the idea has caught on. Not only has he said he would be releasing commentary, he has already recorded it and posted it online. I’m not expecting it to be as funny as Kevin Smith’s commentary however, I’m expecting ‘informative‘.
I think that commentary would be a good idea for a movie so complex as The Nines, as many people would need to see it second time round to really understand it.

August has said,

“In the age of iPods, there’s really no reason why audio commentary has to be relegated to DVD. That’s why Ryan Reynolds and I recorded one last week for The Nines which is now yours to download.”
